the main issue is she doesn't meet the medical requirements. while I can fight the austin residency and homelessness but I can't fight the fact that her care requires long term care and they only provide short term care.
That's unfortunate. I guess I was confused because you said they had rejected her on the basis she was not deemed homeless. The Front Steps Recuperative Care program seems to be tailor made for her situation. Is that the one that rejected her?

I'm going to meet with the hospital caseworker tomorrow. This is a different caseworker since the original one was poorly responsive. I am this close to just giving in and letting the adult protection services take her as guardianship. I was going to find a medicaid lawyer but if the hospital doesn't want to keep her for a month and if there isn't no other service like Front Steps Recuperative Care but for long term, then I have no other choice but to make her a ward of the state. It sucks. I could have done more and placing her as ward of the state just feels like I have given up or something...
You said that she was rejected for not meeting their definition of homelessness.
It's possible that they rejected her because she requires permanent skilled nursing care whereas they are only set up to provide rehabilitation to transition to a permanent housing situation. Without family to take her in after completing rehab, it doesn't sound like they could take her in.

I know that is the alternative but while I am waiting on the decision, I want to know where she could be in the meantime. I'm trying to focus on the now.

Did you tell the short term place that this is only a temporary place while she waits for Medicaid? maybe try that if you haven't already.
I actually found a place for her. It was from one facility that one commenter on here mentioned. I am waiting to hear back from there to see if they will take her. I haven't heard from them since friday.
update: nevermind, I just found out that she was rejected for not being homeless even though she doesn't have an address and doesn't live with me. I guess everything I mentioned was never put into consideration. I wonder how long people will continue to spit on my face. Now I'm back to square one again. At this point, the only thing that is good for me and my mother is if she dies. I know this entire ordeal will come to an end. I know, it sounds morbid and almost selfish but at this point I really don't give a damn. I was hoping to share some good news today but long behold, I am let down once again.
Clearly there is a definition of "homeless" that you and the facility are disagreed upon. Why don't you ask them what they consider to be homeless, and why your mother does not meet that definition?
