That shortage of teachers I recently predicted from a shortage elsewhere in the country. People don't want to work in risky situations.
Put a period after the word "work" and you're on to something. This is the subject of a new thread I intend to start, that Covid has destroyed people's expectations and demands concerning businesses maintaining operations, and actually getting things done. I call it the "Covid Mentality."

Trying to retake some of my tax dollars with the better in State tuition rates here. Nothing else is cheaper that's for sure. Well, maybe a good Carne Asada burrito cause no other States really have one so no comparison.

Great Send the excess patients to San Francisco instead. They're responsible enough up there that a winter surge seems less likely.

I believe this is why the central valley is getting hammered. They don't trust the U.S. Govt and won't get the stab.

The government has no authority to force a person in custody to get a vaccine, that includes prisons, jails and border crossers who are being held in a immigrant detention facility. They are offered the vaccine, and if they are released into the US they are required to get vaccinated.

Too many are refusing.

Do you have a source that being vaccinated is a condition for release into the USA?

I'm not talking about current aka the last two years. We've had massive illegal immigration for 40 years. There has to be a solid number in there somewhere of millions of people that are refusing the vaccine because they don't trust our govt.

It's very hard to survey illegal immigrants due to distrust of government. Anecdotally what I've heard (overheard, sort of) from mostly the offspring of illegal immigrants is that the males in the category are very unlikely to want to be vaccinated. I assume it's just as bad among the male illegal immigrants themselves.

I found this article to be a worthwhile read:

Because you like his idea that this is about over. But it isn't.
1) Large swaths of the country are under-vaccinated.
2) More needs to be known about vaccination effectiveness, especially how likely it is that a breakthrough case will lead to significant post-viral symptoms, because for example 1% of people eventually getting long-COVID would be bad for society. If vaccines were better - which someday they'll be - that would be irrelevant.
