Well I guess 5 percent was not quite enough. Even though it wasn't a wage cut just a reduction in the amount of hours worked by one day every month. We all knew the new budget smelled like a steaming pile of crap.

Read it and weep people. While your reading another anchor baby just got their cut of your American Pie.

Estimated state budget deficit reaches $25.4 billion - latimes.com

The Democrats want to protect programs and raise taxes, while the Republicans want to cut programs and keep taxes where they are, or reduce them.

Tough choices will have to be made and it looks like both approaches to the solution will have to be employed by raising tax and cutting non-essental programs.

The problem is that every non-essential program has a vocal group of people who consider it VERY essential. The state government today basically exists to hand money out to people in one way or another. There's nothing you can cut that won't result in an endless parade of people crying on TV about how they can't get by without a check from the state.

Just think... Meg wanted to cut the capital gains tax which would have increased the deficit another 15 billion.

Yeah, but something is going to have to give.

I note the unions are starting to reduce on their own, which is good.

http://www.ebudget.ca.gov/pdf/Budget...maryCharts.pdf

A bit of information in charts and graphs. It talks about projections for 2011 which actually don't look good as tax cuts (as temporary taxes expire) will result in $12 billion in reduced revenue.

The big things in the budget are in order K-12 education 31%, Health and Human Services 25.1%, higher education 10.6%, business transportation and housing 10.5%, Depart of Corrections 6.8%, legislature Judicial and Executive 5.2%, natural resources (including state parks) 4.4%, General government (plus civil service) 3.7%, there are more items but they're all minor stuff.

Gee, just think how much we could cut if we didn't pay for illegal aliens schooling, healthcare and welfare
