I am sure you've all seen this Volvo commercial. I have, dozens and dozens times and still can't figure out who's who. The son, the blonde driver, the Indian guy in the back twirling a wedding band. What the... How is this supposed to sell more Volvos?

Some marketing firm the hired, or have internally, decided this garbage will sell more cars. I have no idea why it would, nor know why the general public would have a mentality that would somehow be convinced by this stuff. But that goes for most commercials.

The Turkish guy in the back is suppose to be the father of the blonde that is driving, I have no idea who the others are suppose to be. She just got married, and he is being melodramatic about the whole thing. Of course it has nothing to do with the car, nor does it tell me anything about the car other than you can turn the radio on.

Its supposed to give you a really warm feeling, or remind you of one of the best moments in your life (a loved one getting married), and then associate it with driving that car.

the guy in the back is husband to the woman driving and parents to the kid riding shotgun. They just came back from a wedding/renewing there vows, (where they came from I don't think is the point), just where they are going. And clearly a commercial that has a female target audience, (based on the wedding scenario, and a female driver).

What is the ring doing in his hand? Whose ring is it anyway? BTW, he doesn't look Turkish and he looks more like someone who was just divorced and is now reminiscing about what might have been.

If you see the entire set of ads, you discover the older man in the back is the father of the bride and the husband of the woman driving. In the first ad:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gdktZ373KI

you see the younger man in the front passenger seat looking at the photos on the camera and there is one of a young bride and the older man giving a toast.

In the second ad which is taken from this longer ad:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q0ePBvH18c

the older man is identified as the father of the bride planning his speech. In the latter part of his speech he says that when things get tough your first instinct is to get out. IMHO, that relates directly to when is playing with his wedding ring in the back seat - he didn't follow that instinct and has now been married for many years and he hopes the same for his daughter.

That guy is neither Indian NOR Turkish. He's just a guy with a beard - and a Southern accent.

He is, in fact, the father of the BLONDE WHITE bride.

Sheesh! This is why profiling is so bad. White bigots can't really tell one brown from another, or even who is really brown
