whenever a person is exiting their car and locking their doors, a loud honk can be heard. this is annoying when you live in an apartment community. these sounds seem to be recent in the last 2-3 years. i just don't remember them before that. is there no end to modern annoynances?
The horn chirp when setting and shutting of system on most systems is a option. That can be turned on or off. Most people don't read the pwners manuals and have no idea. Also on most systems the honking of the horn when system is set off is a option also.Yes its a pain in the !@#.
I prefer the honk method myself. I'd rather not have to look back to see blinking lights or any other visual sign that my doors are locked. I usually do it just as my back is turned and I'm walking away so I guess now I just rely on the sound to know that the alarm is activated.

+1
That's exactly why I set the horn to honk when my alarm is activated.
I don't live in an apartment or subdivision, but I do try to be conscientious of setting the alarm in residential areas late at night.
I prefer the honk as well...that way I know my SUV is locked and the alarm has been set. While the honk is annoying, you're just going to have to learn to live with it. It could be worse..you could be dealing with noisy neighbors.
I like the Toyota alarms myself, they emit a quiet (yet audible) high pitched beep, instead of a horn honk. Either way none of them bother me whatsoever.

But when you get back home at 2 in the morning and lock the car doors you'll suddenly see lights start coming on all down the street. I don't mind it so much in the day time but occasionally people near where I live will get back home when I'm asleep and wake me up when they lock their doors and it drives me nuts!
I'd suggest re-programming it so that it makes armpit-farts to the tune of "Ode to Joy."
Now that would be rude
