Vancouver, Canada, did a lot worse than that; they wiped out entire neighborhoods of "affordable housing", meaning housing for low-income people, for Olympic construction. That created a huge homeless problem where there hadn't been one. They did not relocate the people, they simply bulldozed their housing and walked away. Eventually, they gave them tents, and changed a city law to allow them to set up their tents in city parks.

For example, prior to the Sydney Olympics, aboriginal people were moved from areas around venues to ‘beautify’ the city.
That is complete and utter bullsh!t.

The Australians as I see it have a lot less problem with actually facing their problems with racism than do other nations. For a good picture of how they do that is to see the film "Rabbit Proof Fence" or "Walkabout". "The Tracker" is also a good film that deals with the subject.

well, well, that is quite racist of you. To assume that those who were homeless and moved on, were Aborigines. The article you linked did not once, explicity state that Aborigines were relocated, nor were they paid to do so. So your original assertion that Australia is racist because Aborigines were "paid to leave Sydney" still hasn't been confirmed.

Thats your evidence? One piece that doesn't state Aborigines were paid to leave, and another by an Architecture group... with one line.

Do you really think that the Aboriginal community would have stood for that? Do you really think that poorly of their community? Considering the climate of the time, where they protested issues affecting their community, the PM at the time refusal to say sorry, that they would have swept under the carpet the explicit payment to leave Sydney to "beautify it"?

Astounding. Of course, the fact that Australians living in Australia at the time have no recollection of this so called scandal, means nothing to you. One line in an Architecture paper will sway your opinion though.

Could anyone imagine what would happen, if they Actually did specifically kick all the aboriginals out of Sydney for the Olympics Games?

We would have the UN and virtually every human rights activist organization around the world of top off us, it would have being on the front page of every major national newspaper, and a lot internationally, there would have possibly being Olympic boycotts, and protests of the likes of which the country has not seen for a long time.

And in what part of that book does she make the false claim that aboriginals were forced to leave Sydney?

This review is enough for me

"Lenskyj’s assessment of new laws and measures aimed at ‘cleaning up’ Sydney and policing ‘undesirables’ is particularly insightful, even though she concludes that, in the end, there were few examples where police powers were abused and people were treated badly"

Always found that term a little tongue in cheek. I often wondered though about the sudden departure of that famed black French runner, the main threat to Australian hopes.....
