Here are two black and white pictures are from the side of my fathers weekend home outside Montevello. They were taken in dead winter. The one with the large boulder is actually volcanic rock dating back millions of years!! volcanoes in Alabama? The other is a waterfall that has caverns underneath. The last pic is from my home in extreme southeast Alabama in Dothan taken in mid February with the first signs of spring.

The races at Talladega and Sloss Furnace. I think they have a haunted house at the furnace if I'm not mistaken? Any of the beautiful waterfalls in the state. I'll be Bama bound next week and I can't wait!

Wow. Fun thread and I've been to so many that have been mentioned!

Fun to see the Dismals get some props. I was in a Haunted House there in Community College!! Talk about spooky!!

NW Alabama has a lot to offer, especially in my home area of the Shoals (Florence, Tuscumbia, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield). The Frank Lloyd Wright House was mentioned but there's Helen Keller's home, the AL Music Hall of Fame, several beautiful parks (McFarland Park on the Tenn. River is cool), Native American attractions (Trail of Tears Ride culminates in nearby Waterloo each year), world-class golf and more. The University of North Alabama campus is gorgeous.

Must see attractions in Colbert County, Alabama (http://www.colbertcountytourism.org/pages/attractions_p/attraction.html - broken link)

Montevallo was mentioned and there's a lot of that area of Shelby County that's really nice to explore including Orr Park (really cool carved trees) in downtown Montevallo. The UM campus (especially the Quad) is a must see also, if in that area.

One awesome attraction in that area is The American Village.

The American Village - Historical village civic education center to strengthen and renew the foundations of American liberty and self-government!

The Covered Bridge Festival in Blount County. Just going for a drive in Blount County is lovely.

I also love everything about the city of Birmingham and surrounding areas, especially Cahaba Heights.
