Apparently Huntsville is the smartest city in the US.
Per capita, there are more PHD's in Madison County than any other state in the union....

And now you know, the REST of the story.....

In Alabama, each city and town has its own flavor. Explore the world-class restaurants and exciting night life , or just find your own stretch of pristine beach to unwind with a good book

For those taking a day trip to Space Center, a visit to the museum of art is a nice stop while in town.

Alabama is hillier than I thought it'd be. I recently drove U.S. 278 all the way across northern Alabama, and the only area with terrain that wasn't too difficult was in the far west near Sulligent. From Guin onward, it was very hilly to downright mountainous. Unfortunately, I couldn't appreciate the scenery, because I got to Guin (from Clarksdale, MS) at twilight. Come to think of it, the only truly flat parts of Alabama I've been to are near Mobile and Dothan.

Last month, I got to visit the summit of Cheaha Mountain, but the view was obscured by fog. This was the week when Tropical Storm Cindy moved in from the Gulf of Mexico. At least I got some good views from scenic overlooks at lower elevations along the road that led to the peak. I drove up U.S. 431 from Dothan to get there, and I was surprised by how hilly the terrain was north of Phenix City.

P.S. U.S. 278 could be Alabama's "tornado highway" since it passes through Guin, Cullman and Piedmont. Maybe U.S. 31 could make a claim too, since it passes through Fultondale, Cullman and Tanner, but U.S. 31 is much longer through Alabama too.

The Rocket City of Huntsville, the beaches along the Gulf, and the state's capitol in Montgomery are some good options to visit in Alabama.
