Relocation - Omaha, Nebraska

Relocation

Congratulations on your choice to move to Nebraska! Lincoln and Omaha are the state’s fastest growing cities. Omaha is Nebraska’s largest city and the 40th largest city in the United States. Its metro area population is close to 850,000. Land speculators founded Omaha in 1854 and it officially became a city in 1897. It’s named after an Indian tribe and its name means “those going against the wind or current.”

Many move to Omaha to work at one of its many Fortune 500 or 1,000 companies, including Berkshire Hathaway, Union Pacific Railroad, ConAgra Foods, Peter Kiewit Sons Construction, Mutual of Omaha insurance, TD Ameritrade, West Corporation, Werner Enterprises, or Valmont Industries. Omaha is a leader in the telecommunications and information services industries, with 1,000 companies employing more than 50,000 people. When you call to make a hotel reservation, there’s a good chance you’re calling Omaha: It’s home to Hyatt, Marriott, Radisson, and Omni reservation centers.

Lincoln is Nebraska’s state capital. The city has many big city amenities but offers a small town, affordable quality of life. It’s home to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and the campus draws visiting scholars and students to the city, both of whom add to Lincoln’s rich cultural fabric.

Both Lincoln and Omaha offer steady economies, low crime rates, costs of living that rank below the national averages, and low unemployment.

Lincoln and Omaha are both exciting, entertaining places to live with much to offer. Nebraskans are lucky enough to enjoy all four seasons: warm summers; temperate springs; cool falls; and cold, snowy (yet beautiful!) winters. West Omaha and South Lincoln are ever expanding neighborhoods and many people choose to live in these booming suburbs. Both cities have also enjoyed redevelopment in their downtown regions, like new living options such as condos and apartments and an ever growing list of entertainment and eating venues.
