To be eligible to vote in Nebraska, residents must be 18 years old, live in Nebraska, and not be a convicted felon, or if a convicted felon, be two years past the completion of the sentence, including parole. Registration is available at any county clerk or election commissioner’s office during normal business hours. Residents may also register by mail, and applications are available at many places throughout the state; a complete list of locations is also available online. Those registering for the first time by mail must provide a copy of a current photo ID showing the same name and residence address provided on the application. Nebraska also allows people to register to vote when they apply for a driver’s license at the Nebraska DMV.Nebraska voters can choose from one of three party affiliations: Democratic, Republican, or Libertarian. Those who do not declare a party affiliation are not allowed to vote in primary elections, and at other elections only receive a non-partisan ballot.Residents must re-register when they change their name, address, or party affiliation. Those who complete the forms will receive a voter registration card in the mail once the registration is complete. For information on early voting and polling places or online forms, visit the Nebraska Secretary of State website, www.sos.ne.gov or call (888) 727-0007.
