It is housed in downtown Atlanta on the site of the old Rialto, a premier movie palace complete with escalator. A declining Downtown economy in the ’80s closed the old theater’s doors. In 1991 Georgia State University purchased the site, ultimately transforming it into a professionally managed performing arts complex with 900 seats. Programming includes music, dance, theater, and film to celebrate the cultural diversity and artistic excellence available in Atlanta. The Rialto season caters as much to the blue jeans crowd as to the black-tie set.
