I decided to dodge the atmospheric river. Had sunny skies and 60s today on my paddle on a lake ~ 30 miles south of Vancouver, Wa. Well worth the relatively short drive.

Ok Derek, I am now officially jealous .

We are having high clouds, mild temps, no wind and flat water here.
My wife and I are going to go exploring on some backroads in a bit.

I have things to do down south so this is my last weekend here for a couple weeks and I’m going to take advantage of it rain be damned

We are going to explore more of the Dungeness River area, the Deer Park road area and hit one of my shooting spots for some practice.

I’ll try to post some pics later.

Rainy here today… supposed to get heavier overnight and stormy tomorrow. Our creek down below is above flood stage… and when it’s like this we can see it from the house . We went down earlier this morning to take a look and took a picture. The actual creek bed is on the other side of the low bushes you can see there.

It’s been a rather warm day.
No rain or wind just a bit damp.
Saw some cool things in typical hazy grey weather.
People still catching salmon, golden eagle eating salmon, some Smokey mountains and things like that.
Nice lazy day.

Nice adventures. Looks like you had a bit of sun break through in that first shot reflecting on the water. Is that the Dungeness River area you were talking about visiting today, Andy?

Enjoyed a walk in our local forest. The weather was warm (60s), mostly cloudy with a few sun breaks throughout the day.

Derek that area is the Railroad Bridge area of the Dungeness River.
It almost downtown Sequim about a good mile behind Walmart.
We spent most of the day about 10 miles up the hill on the upper Dungeness.
I like that area more.
It’s just beautiful.
I’m not much of a river fishing guy so I like to watch and learn how people fish it.

Any how back to the weather ,
It was warm (55f) all day long.
No rain alt all except the occasional drizzle and no wind.
There was however a large rise in river elevation from a week ago.
Maybe a good 2 feet or so of quick water.
That is more water than most would realize.

Diana,

What happens when it reaches flood stage? Just curious.

Not much! We attract more ducks! And we have a winter salmon run some winters. Our house and barn are well above the flood plain, as are most along this creek. It might stay high for much of the winter now.

Scatter Creek flows into the Chehalis, and the Chehalis floods regularly and with much more consequence.

Scatter Creek usually floods when the Chehalis does, because there's no where for all the water to go.

About 300’ of our gravel driveway is flooded from the ditch that drains the neighbors pasture. The creek behind the house continues to roar so loud we can hear it in the house. It has rained non-stop all day long, a contain steady rain that isn’t letting up. One of the neighbors big fir trees fell because the shallow soil is so saturated.
