^^ Tijuana, Mexicali and Ensenada are much closer to San Diego than Monterrey is to Houston and San Antonio. So every weekend is "Holy Shopping" here at our malls and outlets.

I don't shop much or work in retail, so perhaps there is a spike in shopping during the Holy week that I do not notice.

I have to admit the shopping in Texas is pretty darn good for mid-level designer clothes. For high end CA takes the cake.

How much of the Hispanic population would you say is foreign born in Southern California?

^^ That's a tough question to answer, San Diego County is very diverse with people from all over the nation and globe and is only about 35% Hispanic, I would say its 50/50 as far as US born Hispanics.

LA county is even more diverse than SD and is about 50% Hispanic. My guess is that only 1/3rd of LA's Hispanics are US born but that is just a guess.

It's funny that SD is closer to the border but has a smaller Hispanic population that the LA area, which is quite the opposite of Texas border cities.

I'm trying to find some good stats online regarding US born Hispanics VS foreign born Hispanic and am coming up dry.

So is San Antonio the forgotten city? I guess it is considering we are forgetting it even in this thread.

It doesn't get as much buzz, but to me, SA is cool because it doens't try to be cool, laid-back, etc. It's a great place to live and a great place to raise a family (I don't live there anymore but loved it when I did). It's got a culture that isn't replicated anywhere else in the states, as far as I can tell. And people generally get along.

I think so partly cuz its a bit outside the Texas triangle. Its a little too far west and south compared to DFW, Houston and Austin. Its not as mentioned as much but its definitely a very important place in Texas' cultural identity. Remember the Alamo!

For a tourist San Antonio is a boring city, in a single day you can walk the few points of interest.

Dallas or Houston are more sophisticated, with more things to see and better restaurants and commercial offerings. Even Austin is more interesting than San Antonio.

People go to San Antonio for shopping and return to Mexico, nothing interesting to see: The river, the malls, 2 theme parks and the zoo, and that´s it.

Since when did Austin become one corner of the triangle, San Antonio has always been the SouthWestern corner of the Texas Triangle due to its size and particularly due to the interstate cross roads which Austin does not have.
