it's a fad...and AUS is where the entertainment $$ live.

Gotta book where you can sell-out. (sometimes for multiple concerts)

A Business case.

Yeah but it used to be opposite. San Antonio used to be where the big tours went while Austin was of course the indie music capital of the south. Now Austin is getting the big tours that San Antonio used to get while the indie music isn’t as prevelant as it once was. San Antonio should start promoting indie music to make something good out of this.

It seems to be another chapter in San Antonio being forgotten compared to Austin Dallas and Houston. This is With the exception of Spanish speaking artists which as of now still favor San Antonio for the most part.

Austin is becoming more of a big city to San Antonio's detriment.
Austin shook off it's college town persona. Its niche was the young white college crowd but as it is becoming more mature, it is becoming more well rounded.and attracting shows that appeal to a wider range of audiences.

Austin's gain is San Antonio's loss as the two are close enough to attract concert goers from either.

To stay afloat SA markets the Latin sector heavier, which pushes it more into the niche market territory which loops back to mainstream acts looking to Austin as the more mainstream venue city.

San Antonio has to address venue development, targeted marketing, and strategic partnerships.

A lot of major tours normally skip both and perform in Dallas and Houston only. Austin got Olivia Rodrigo and Niki this year and we get Drake. Austin will keep getting them with the bright and shiny new Moody Center.

San Antonio is attempting to place the Spurs back DT which would be a catalyst for more shows.

The funny thing about Drake is that this is in the smaller city tour leg. The main part of the tour was last year. Austin wasn’t on either tho

From what I can tell there's a few things going on here. First would be radius clauses, this one seems to be up in the air on how true this is, but would make sense. I can't remember the last time I've seen SA + Austin together on a major tour. The second is supposedly SA isn't much of a "presale" market whereas Austin is. Again, not sure how much truth there is to that these days. There's also the Spurs/Rodeo factor.

SA gets a good amount of shows from big name artists, although it does seem like Austin has been nabbing more lately. I don't think it has anything to do with SA not being able to support it though. The Drake concert looked absolutely packed both nights. My guess is a mix of the above, and the promoters know they can still syphon the SA market to the shows in Austin.
