But California has metro areas like Fresno with over a million people and Stockton has over 700k in its metro. Sacramento area is pretty forgotten about and its close to three million people. El Paso and the RGV are Texas' true forgotten metros.

San Antonio is not in the west. The true west doesn't even begin until the pecos region of Texas which is 7 hours away.

San Antonio is definitely the southwest since that is where the desert starts.

the desert in Texas starts in Far West Texas which is hours away from S/A.I dont know if S/A could be considered Southwest or not but it is certainly not desert.

And sometimes Nacogdoches and Tyler!!

Having grown up in SA, it certainly felt that way. Everything that came to Texas hit Dallas, Houston and Austin either first, or just skipped SA entirely. But SA always was a big "metal" town, so rock concerts came there frequently. Seems like restaurants are still that way.
