I remember your posts from FL, and how moving back to CO would fix everything. That's obviously not been the case.

Like I said before, until you look within and expose/highlight/deal with what baggage stays around and the attitudes towards others that keep dooming everything, you'll never be happy anywhere. You're trying to run from yourselves.

Stop blaming others, and start putting the blame where it belongs (on yourselves). You have a chance to start fixing things where you are now, but instead will probably just move somewhere else to complain about there, and repeat the pattern once again.
So, what about those that judge US for loving rodeo? Yes, it's happened here. Only people we are trying to run from is those that don't like and/or don't know rodeo and those that don't get along very well with Seniors. They don't like the way they drive and other things.

Reason we left Colorado was...........not thinking! I fell in the driveway of our house in Parker, that required a rotator cuff surgery. I didn't want to fall again and didn't want my wife to fall due to something. So, we decided to leave, but, very unfortunately, I fell in FL. The day was bright sunshine, warm and I fell in the parking lot of our apt. complex. That fall required rotator cuff surgery on the other shoulder. What neither of us thought about is: either of us could fall anywhere we live. And, that exactly what happened.

After a year, for her own reasons, including Lake Norman's Nuclear Power Plant, she wanted to move. We were going to buy a boat and use that lake. It was unreal how hot the lake water was during the summer.

Paid a visit to Jacksonville, FL, liked it and moved there. But, no rodeo action, no mountains, nobody wearing western clothing, no elk and very few fresh water lakes. So, after 10 1/2 years, came back to Colorado. Just didn't know it had changed so much here. Stopped in Parker and Parker Rd. was now a 4-lane highway. It was only two when we left in 2007. And, many, many more people. Astounding!!

Now, Thoreau424, I got the same "attitude" treatment, concerning rodeo, when I lived in Orange County, CA. "You don't belong here", I was told numerous times. Talk about "toleration"? They sure weren't tolerant of me and what I really liked.

So, we don't have to "look in a mirror at ourselves" when others won't do the same, considering what we like.

We have a year to check places out, and with a lot of praying and help from our Lord, we'll be alright.

Thanks for your replies.
No, some of us do see why you want city AND “cowboy country” features. The thing we are saying is that you’re unlikely to get both of them in one area. (Especially with a small budget.)

If ranchers were not interested in hiring you when you were younger because you had no ranch experience, then that view hasn’t gotten any better with more aging. As I keep warning you, All Hat and No Cattle. Chatting online with others on a supposed ranch website doesn’t mean that the other posters are actually ranchers, either.

You don’t want tattooed people, wind, humidity, cold, people who don’t idolize your preferred dress code, young people in general...the list goes on and on.

Definitely seek 55 And Over apartment that fits the budget and hope the residents don’t have grandkids with tattoos. The cowboy stuff can be indulged on vacation or special occasions, by visiting whatever the closest rodeo-crazy place is.

BTW, I see both cowboy clothing and entire body tattooes and piercings in body parts that can be bared to the public. Not necessarily on the same person (though sometimes yes). The diversity is around, all around, in Colorado, even in the conservative areas. Tattooes are legal. So is wearing whatever you want, within bounds of ordinary decency. So just wear what you want and reorder your priorities, or you’ll drain your funds right down to the bottom. Nobody gets everything they want.

Yes, take in all negatives and minuses, and there's nowhere left. Something will always be found to frown upon. Until that changes, the end results will not change either. This is an internal matter, not external.

There's no stopping the world changing. You can choose to not let it bother or affect you, or else choose to be rigid and miserable. It's up to you. Sleep in the bed you make. Man up, like a real cowboy. Action, not talk.

Do understand what you are saying here. Perhaps we are asking for too much, but doesn't everyone want "to much"? LOL

The forum I'm on, with ranchers, are either retired ranchers or working ranchers. Only reason I was allowed on the forum is due to my previous knowledge/interest in ranching, but definitely not doing it. When I told members that wife and I have visited Centennial Livestock Auction, in Ft. Collins, just to observe the sales, they were somewhat impressed. When I told them, and put pictures on my posting, of the farm/ranch miniature livestock (in plastic corrals), miniature farm equipment and miniature cowboys/w rope on horseback, that is on our bar between kitchen and dining room, they were quite impressed (again). When I told them I knew the different breeds of cattle, horses and hogs/pigs, again........impressed. Had never worked a fully cow-calf operation ranch, but sure had the knowledge.

We knew it didn't, but were looking more at the wintertime weather there, when we moved there. It wasn't until later, some 10 1/2 years later, that we really thought about what we gave up in Colorado to end up leaving. When we lived in NC, we did go to an Indian (Cherokee) Casino in the mountains. We only went in the summer, definitely not in the winter.

But, while in Florida, we did get down to Key West, Disney World (Star Wars area), Tampa, Seaworld and Waterpark (Orlando) and casino in Tampa. So, our 10 1/2 years there wasn't all bad. But, the Tropical Storms, lightning, Hurricane Mathew and Irma, were bad enough.

Well, I was never considered a "real cowboy" for-to-say, since I had a full-time, nice paying job working for an electronics company. I was a "weekend warrior", like Reserves in the Navy were called when I was in.

As far as "changes in the world", don't even talk about them to Seniors that live here. They know what Larimer County use to be like and what it's like now. They can't just outright sell their house and move, where all we have to do is, give a 30-Day Notice, having things packed, call a local or national moving company.............and leave. Where to? Now, that's what we have to figure out.

Getting the relevant facts about places is not the problem. Facing the fact that you won’t get all the wants without the don’t-wants is the big deficiency.

Most people want too much of one place. With more careful review, they usually either eliminate that place or decide to accept whatever they don’t like about it. Sure, you can move again, but each such change costs $$$$$ and time and energy. Unless you’re young—and if so why would you post on the Retirement forum?—those moves can really sap you.
