I saw another one today. A lady about my age that cut most of her hair off. It was no more than an inch long all over her head. I don't get it? IMHO, it certainly doesn't make them more attractive. Yet I see women who do this who obviously do other things and spend money to make themselves look better, but then cut their hair mostly off. I didn't think hair was that big a maint. thing. Maybe the ladies can explain?
I cut all my hair off last year. It was half way down my back, then shoulder length, then I just went for it.
I have a lot of hair - and its thick. Every hairdresser that has touched my hair says it is the most hair they have ever worked with. A curse and a blessing.
I also let it go grey. I was going to go for the Emmy Lou Harris look when it was long, but decided to go Jamie Curtis instead.
I still have to work with it - use gel, but not as much as when it was long. The washing and drying and flat ironing. If I was going anywhere - I had to spend a minimum of 30 minutes on the hair. Now - I am out the door in no time at all.
But I do have to play up the make up and jewelry and go with a different color to my wardrobe.
Who knows - maybe one day I will grow it out again.

Perhaps she/they have some sort of medical issue.
The good news for these women is they do not live their lives or make their choices to please you and they don't have to ask for anyone's permission either.
I'm 42 but when I underwent chemo in my 30s, I kept my hair short for an entire year after treatment. I still wore makeup and nice earrnings and the short cut really complimented my face.
One of my sisters, who is a twin to another sister, has a high-end salon hairdresser who chopped off all my sister's hair and it looks like h***. It's way too short for my sister's face. The cut tries to look trendy and really misses. And the bleached blonde coloring on her looks so fake (she's 66). OTOH, a friend goes to a different salon and has her grey hair really short, close to her head, shaped well (no "layered way up the back" look) and nice rinses to show off the grey. She looks terrific. So it all depends on the stylist working with the shape of the face, and of course the coloring. It's impossible to make a blanket statement about hair.

Same here although I started a couple years ago. This last summer I got it cut real short. My hair is also very thick ( and one hair dresser counted 6 cowlicks). I love it short it's so much easier to care for and feels so much better especially at the gym!
After chemo I swore I would never cut my hair short again.[ actually I was never going to cut it at all, but c'mon] It is nearly shoulder length and it is NOT great hair, by any stretch, but I am fine with that. When I need to 'look right" I pin it back. On the rare occasion that I play "dress up," I will even put in a few hair extensions. I am not sure why people care about someone elses hair.
