You cannot penalize a crime by committing the same crime.

Capital punishment is not a crime. It is not murder. Killing in self-defense or defense of another is not murder. Killing the enemy in warfare on the battle field is not murder and not a crime. Killing a murderer under capital punishment is not murder.

Perhaps another question is about the morality of the situation.

The penalty is justice, not murder.

A life for a life, eh? It somehow still seems like murder. And revenge. And barbaric.

That’s up to the state to decide.

Really. Because you've stated your opinions.

But since you support it, the blood of "at least 197 people who had been wrongly convicted and sentenced to death in the U.S. have been exonerated" is partially on your hands.

Capital punishment is state sponsored murder. If and when new evidence surfaces and the murdered victim is exonerated, who should go to jail? Whom would the state murder now? Until the state can give back the victim’s life, murder is murder.

What happens when new evidence surfaces that clearly establishes the victim was the wrong man? How will you restore “justice” then? Until we know perfect justice can be rendered, the state should not play god.
