There is no mind distinct from the body. So once the body dies it's lights out.
The mind-body distinction is a last-ditch effort to defend the idea of the soul.
Religion, belief in a God with no outward evidence, wishes of living forever in some spiritual body naturally gives way to thousands of religious brainiacs over countless thousands of years who start religions in an effort to assure themselves they'll go on living after physical death. Look at Christianity and Roman Catholicism. Together, their theism is so complex, convoluted and contradictory that it fills a set of encyclopedias larger than the IRS tax code. Is it any wonder that no theist can possibly comprehend even 1% of what Christianity actually professes. Start with 78--count 'em--SEVEN theories of how to get saved (atonement) each one different from the other. All this started from man's desire to live forever and grew like a cancer into what we have today. Incredible.

My post was sarcasm, Michael. So you agree with me and Phet and disagree with the woo-woos and neuroscientists! Whatever the chair actually is does exist as do we, Michael. It is only that our perceptions of reality are designed to enable us to function at the macro level so that whatever actual reality IS there is interpreted for us. It is similar to the icons on a computer screen that interpret the "electron reality" within the computer for us so we can use it.

If any of these physical only believer were to see the witness of UFO s that were seen then many of these UFOs and underwater no wake wave UFOs then these could out fly all jets in the armed forces and these disappear in THIN AIR in the witness........ So then the spiritual can be invisible to the physical science, where the soul will leave the body which is all the memories of life and be brought to be with the Lord God if the Lord has the soul or if the soul is not for God then the soul will die and be lost, still the spirit cannot die ......... See UFO are spirits that is living spirits rejected by God ...... Man spirit is taken out of the earth at death and brought to a place the Lord prepared ........ I strongly suspect that folks who were abducted and probed (painfully) by "occupants" of UFOs certainly didn't experience "spirit beings" and would object to that conclusion.

IMHO, his report on the "other realm" is credible. Not only did he avoid using "religious" metaphors, but built a lab to discover what exactly was going on. . . and had assistance from two scientists who helped build and run the lab. His recordings of the sequence of brainwaves necessary to accomplish "exiting" was used to generate audio tools (Hemi-Sync), that induced the same pattern of brainwaves.
One of his "science guys," Thomas Campbell, a NASA Physicist, wrote "My Big TOE" (TOE= "Theory of Everything") that links quantum physics, Newtonian physics, with Relativity. He can now explain conundrums and paradoxes like the famous "double slit" experiment... or even the Big Bang, where 'something' came from 'nothing' (A fact that annoys Physicists who demand causality to be in force and effect.)
His experiments led him to discover that consciousness (in or out of a body) can affect the material world, but the material world cannot affect consciousness. Thus, consciousness is the superset, and creation is the subset.
