To correct your first sentence you should have said ancient men and many modern men. Don't let us off the hook so easily.
Yup. We haven't changed much, some of us. Much to my shame. I've never understood how a man can abuse a woman, the one who loves him, the one he supposedly loves(?). It's a topic that upsets me.
Regarding Muslims - I have known, met and witnessed Muslim men who have been very loving, tender and caring toward their wives (and kids).
Was thinking about this a bit and wondering what people think is the root of evil.
People who commit evil acts – Hitler, suicide terrorists, preaching hate at funerals have a common quality. Those acts can only be committed by egomaniacs. Someone is so selfish and so caught up in their ideology that they will do anything to cause harm to others not like them.
So if ego leads to evil, what leads to serenity and/or God? Reducing one’s ego, becoming more selfless, accepting personal flaws and what is outside of one’s control, stepping outside of one’s ideological and social bubble. My experience is that it takes self-awareness and work but leads to inner peace and increased happiness.
I think apathy is the root of most (but not all) evil. How many people have died or suffered because 'it's not my problem'?

Evil exists in the ability to rationalize the necessity, the right even, for humans to do horrible things to each other. Evil is not in and of itself physical however. In that sense evil doesn't actually exist. It only exists as a concept. A concept that is derived from hatred.
Oh yeah. That is right. Nothing that good could exist in this faulty existence (and if created, then faultily created; as capability of falling IS a fault). But you would still feel much more comforted by such a belief than with a eternal hell belief (unless you just don't care all that much about others). Yet Supernaturalist Buddhism (just like the Supernaturalist Christianity of KJV Bibliolaters and others) still wouldn't solve the problem that evil and wrong existed in the first place, rather than not existing.
