I think the amount of pic you can take/store does not depend on the camera...I think it has to do with the size film/card you put into the camera....
I use a 6.2 HP Photosmart R725 & have a 1gig [think thats what its called] SD card it takes 544 pic!
How many pictures you can store on your SD card depends on the mp captured in your camera ... a 6.2 mp camera will take up a lot less storage space than a 10.2 mp camera. Then it also depends on how you are shooting ... low res to save space or high res to take advantage of the camera capabilities. There is also RAW format that takes up an entire wazoo of storage space ... ! My 2 gig card stores about 300 images with my 10.2 mp camera.
I shoot primarily with my two Nikon D80's with a 18-55 lens and 55-200 lens. I have an old 35mm Nikon that I started out with. A point and shoot (Z-something 6.2mp) Kodak. A pocket sized 8.2mp Kodak for my kids to play with. Although they've grown to really like shooting with the D80's also. There are a couple other older camera's laying around primarily to collect dust.
Yes how you shoot does efect the amount. I was trying to answer ClayLady & just used a quick answer. I set my camera on 4 MP & the number of pic I could take went up to 736! My close inside shots still looked great.....
As far as my "troubles" shooting fast-action with my Panasonic Lumix, I talked to a very nice lady at Wolf Camera (she works there) and she explained what I was doing wrong. Fortunately it's NOT a camera problem, it's a definite ME problem. Having me as the problem saves me money......thank you, thank you! Anyway, this lady knows a tremendous amount about digital camera's and was so glad to talk to her. These nice, and somewhat expensive, digital camera's can be very nice to own, but trying to figure out all the "extra" stuff inside the camera can be a headache if you are just an average camera user (like myself). One look at the Manual and it's like......WOWWWWWWW, a lot to learn!
Holy cow....The price!!!!....Not only that but it costs an extra $3 grand for a 5 year warrantee!...I'll pass.
And its not returnable UNLESS its defective. If you just don't like it, or its not up to expectation (how the hell can you figure that wouldn't live up to an expectation at 33 mp!?) you're stuck with it.
Can you imagine the imagery out of that thing??? Its medium format, so it would be nothing short of incredible, but what a headache to store the HUGE files!!!
I gotta wonder just how many of those have sold......then again, I saw a Canon lens at B&H for $99,000.....now that's definitely OUT!
Not sure where this thread is going. But it all depends on what I'm trying to accomplish.
My wife and I got bit by the photo bug hard. This is an older pic and there's more stuff added to it now, but this is what we generally pack in the back of the Jeep when we go out on a "shoot".
The 400mm f2.8 on the right has been semi-retired in favor of my 600mm f4 IS that isn't pictured here, but my wife still uses her 400mm. I've also just added a 1D Mark III and a fisheye.
Canon 5d, Canon 20d, Two Canon 1D Mark II, Canon 1Ds Mark II and Canon 1D Mark III
Canon 600mm f4 IS, Canon 400mm f2.8 IS, Sigma 50-500mm f4.5-6.3 in EX and DG versions, Canon 100-400mm IS, Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS, Sigma 150mm f2.8 Macro, Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro, Canon 24-70mm f2.8L, Sigma 24-70mm f2.8, Canon 16-35mm f2.8, Canon MP-E 65mm f2.8, Canon 15mm f2.8 Fisheye, 2 Canon 2x Teleconverter II, 1.4x Teleconverter II, MR-14EX Macro Ringflash, MT-24EX Macro Twinlite, 550EX, Bogen CF Tripod, Wimberley Head, Bogen 3036 Head, Muford Technologies Time Machine with various sensors, Canon Timer Remote and a Lightning Detector.
Now, that's what I use for shooting/processing pictures on the road. Sat phone and Glock .45 cal for safety.
When I'm at home and have different shooting needs, like taking care of rodents outside, this is what I shoot with:
Volquartsen parts in .22LR with the exception of the Leupold 3.5-10x40mm LR/T scope with illuminated tactical milling, Leupold scope rings and Fajin thumbhole stock.
With all due respect, Swampy101, I would hardly call that bitten by a bug. Swallowed by a monster is more like it. Holy crap. Between you, Redhawk (website) and Azkadellia I am sure I am way way over my head trying to compete with you guys in a photo contest. Your picture of your equipment represents more money than my first home cost me. Maybe even the second one. Perhaps both added together. Wow, very impressive. Oh, and how did you pull off that perfectly white background? Has that picture been 'cooked'? I see shadow from lighting in front/right (on the screens), but nothing any where else. Do tell.
