I have a funny feeling I'm about to get back into photography..

I used to shoot with a Canon Elan II e (film)... then I was back in college and couldn't afford to pay for film when I had other stuff to pay for.. so I took a photography break..

something tells me a sony a300 is in my future..

just curious as to what you shoot with.

I shoot with a Canon Digital Rebel XTi with a variety of lenses--50 mm 1.4, 28-135 mm 3.5-5.6 IS, and 70-200 mm 2.8 IS (when I can get my hands on one).

It's been a great little camera for me and I'll keep it and use it until it dies, then after that, pretty sure I'll go full-frame digital.

Mostly using (now) a six year old Sony F828. Its got 28-200 mm, f/2.0-8.0 Carl Zeiss lens, 8 MP. I also have a few filters (CPL, IR, Diffuser, Neutral Density 2x/8x). If there's something I miss, it is greater zoom range and the camera predates common use of image stabilization.

Absolutely love the IR flexibility, sharp lens, well placed controls, construction, swiveling body, and perfect balance. I also have a dormant Minolta SLR camera, with a few lenses, and since Sony now owns the brand, the Sony A-series cameras (A300 being one of them) is now compatible with those lenses.

Not yet! If you are in my neighborhood, you'd be welcome to use them though.

I'm shooting most of my photos with a Canon Powershot SX10 IS. Also use a Canon A590 and am about to dig out my Canon D10 for some special shots the others can't handle.

I'm shooting:

Camera:
Nikon D40 - I'm a big fan of this camera, light weight and easy to use. It is missing a few features that I might like to use, but not enough to make the leap to a more pro-style body. Yet.

Lenses:
Nikon 18-55mm - Kit lens with the D40.
Nikon 55-200mm VR - This is my go-to lens for almost everything (except landscape). Really nice to use with the 500D closeup lens for flowers and bugs - I can get about a 1:1 macro with about 18" working distance.
Nikon 50mm 1.8 - (low light and occasional lens stacking). This lens won't auto-focus on the D40, but it is cheap and very sharp. With a reverse mount on the 55-200, I can get a 4:1 macro (not a lot of use so far, but something to play with). For natural-light portraits it is outstanding.

Other gear:
Canon 500D Closeup Lens - see above on the 55-200mm. This is a double-element diopter and has excellent quality.
Nikon SB-400 Flash - this is a great little inexpensive flash. It has a bounce head and is light enough to use on a macro bracket.
Kirk Macro Flash bracket. - kind of an extension arm for the flash to get it up at the end of the lens. It's not bad, but I think I would have preferred one with a ball head to be a little more flexible.
