You're quite right that serving those areas with bus service would be expensive. Here's some info though: About 5% of Monongalia county (around 5,000 people) live in the actual western part of the county (the area from Core and west).

That population is disproportionately older and poorer than the rest of the county, meaning transportation is an issue for many people in that part of the county. As a result, many of the elderly and young, poor families lack access to an actual grocery store and rely on things like Family Dollar and Dollar General for their primary source of groceries. Seniors often skip medical care because they can't get to Morgantown to see specialists or have tests that can't be done at the clinic in Blacksville. There is no service to provide transportation to these seniors. Despite In Touch and Concern's claims to serve all of Monongalia County, they do not travel further west than Core. Trivia: Greene County, PA, has a transportation system for the elderly or disabled which will transport patients to the community health center (a health safety net provider) in Blacksville, but Monongalia County does not.

Ambulance transportation is also an issue in that area of the county. Three ambulance companies serve Mon County: Mon EMS, Jan Care, and the Star City VFD. The Star City VFD once stationed an ambulance in Blacksville to reduce response times in those areas. The county commission, however, refused to change the dispatching order for ambulances. If you're curious, Mon EMS is always dispatched first. If they're not available, Jan Care is dispatched. If they're not dispatched, Star City is. That meant that there would be an ambulance crew sitting in Blacksville, 2 minutes from a patient. Mon EMS would instead be dispatched and arrive in 20 minutes. There's places in western Mon County where waiting 45 minutes for an ambulance would be typical. I know at least one person who may have lived had it not been for an extended response time.

My second topic being off topic as it is, I think it would be fantastic to add a couple of routes to Mountain Line. Send a bus out to Core, Blacksville, Daybrook, Wadestown (and yes, Mount Morris like someone said in another post) 3 or 4 times a day. Send another to reach the areas in southern and eastern Mon County 3-4 times a day. You wouldn't see large ridership, but it would be a great service to those people who lack other transportation options.

It would be....but then again, it's not my responsibility to fund their transportation. These people have chosen to live in a rural area. These kinds of things come with the territory.

Those folks are now paying for Mountain Line service with the new Levy. It seems inappropriate to impose a levy on areas that receive no benefit from the levy.

I went to the German restaurant last year so that part is incorrect.

Default New Suncrest Area Small Shopping Plaza

The new shopping plaza diagonally across from Suncrest (diagonally towards Mon General) that will have a starbucks, bank, papa johns and a couple others places, has broken ground, their is a couple excavation vehicles on the site, some utilities have been moved, some dirt has started to be moved and there are flags all over the site. The design plans are posted in the Planning Commission thread. I'm glad this is finally getting underway.

Any idea what Bank it will be exactly? this town needs a national bank like Wells Fargo or Bank of America already!

That we do! But unfortunately I believe it was said to be a MVBank. I'm surprised we don't have a Wells Fargo.

Here is a link to their BZA application. Shows a MVBank http://www.morgantownwv.gov/wp-conte...ahue-Drive.pdf

Not in 2015, you didn't. Sue closed the restaurant each winter and travelled to Germany. When she got back in early 2015, she made the decision not to reopen he restaurant. It was last open in November 2014.

I understand the desire for a national bank, but I have to say that I don't like any of the national banks.
