Whats so special about Coral Gables? You live in a city with TONS of rules, some nice trees, and over priced houses. Is it really worth the $600,000+? I dont think so. Move to Pinecrest, Davie, or Southwest Ranches, thats where the 'smart' crowd resides.

I don't really know how Pinecrest, Coral Gables, Davie or Southwest Ranches could be compared. Coral Gables IS unique in atmosphere in South Florida compared to those three cities, which don't have any kind of town center.

With the exception of Davie, which only has certain areas in the same price range, they're all in the same range. More land in Pinecrest, Davie, and Southwest Ranches.

West Palm has a look and feel just like the Gables. Parts of downtown Delray do also. Boca- near where Glades goes out to A-1-A

YES, Coral Gables is unique and special (for all the reasons already expressed) and the "smart" people choose to live there.

The Coral Gables Police/Fire Department is the best anywhere

Coral Gables is an oasis, surrounded by

Coral Gables IS unique. My mother-in-law lives in a old Spanish built in 1927! Pretty cool.
The difference is character. Sorry, Davie has almost none.
Older sections of Palm Beach or Broward do too, but it just isn't as big an area and in many cases even more expensive and "walled off." (Like the houses near Worth Ave)

"CGables," to me also includes S Miami, southern Coconut Grove and northern Pinecrest. At least in accessibility. Anyone that wants land, and can afford it, CAN get it in CGables too. BUT I'd say that the ability to live in a very well kept, interesting neighborhood within a very short drive to downtown Gables, Grove, S Miami, 20-30 minutes to Brickell or Blue Lagoon and so close to the bay and without cookie cutter homes is pretty great.
YES, there are some homes that could just as well be in Westchester -- especially along Red & Bird or in the northern edge, it isn't ALL fantastic, BUT you can still buy in one of the decent sections for less than $400k nowadays. You can't do that in Pinecrest.
