Christmas isn't the same without Walker's Shortbreads, all varieties especially chocolate dipped!

Thanks for the recipe, Mikala. That sounds simple, comforting and divine. Like something a loving Mother would feed her family.

I appreciate Alm's recipe for the bitter chocolate orange cookies. We love that combination of flavors.

So far the only sweet we will be making for family is bourbon balls, because.... bourbon.

I should not have tried it because of course I want to eat the whole carton in one sitting -- it's THAT good!

I do plan to bake a bunch of fruit muffins and some sugar cookies to give to a couple of colleagues on campus in those fun holiday tins. I won't bake much, though, as I don't want the leftovers in my house!
I love Tillamook ice. Sooo good.

I like it better than Graeter's, better than Ben & Jerry's.

Ice cream and cookies. Can't be beat.

1 stick butter
2 lbs powdered sugar
1/2 cup bourbon
1 cup finely chopped nuts

cream butter in 1st lb of sugar, gradually add other 1 lb sugar and bourbon. Should make a stiff dough.

make into small balls on wax paper and refrigerate

Dip in:

12 oz chocolate
1/4 cake parafin

Refrigerate.

Oddly, my mother's recipe cards do not address the nuts.... I guess in the dough or sprinkled on top of the chocolate.

I decided not to make them. Too much sugar and too much work.

Me too, those cookies sound really good. I also like the dark chocolate/orange combination.
