The local weather gurus keep promising the rains will get more widespread and hit more of us in the next couple of weeks. They say the ingredients are all there for the beginning of the rainy season, but the rain is hitting well east of us, including the east coast.

I sure hope so, we sure need some rain! Our canal is tidal, just off the Peace River, so the levels vary according to the tides, but haven't been low like we see in the winters when the winds are blowing from the north.

Hopefully about a month from now we will be getting plenty of rain, the vegetation will have greened up and we'll see people grousing about all the rain.

The pond behind my back porch is literally all dried up. I haven't lived here that long (2 years) but this is the first time I see it like that. At worst, it was "low" before during dry seasons, but definitely not DRY with grass now growing in it.
All wildlife has moved from it. Used to get gators, large turtles, fishing birds, fish, frogs, deer in the morning drinking the water. All gone.
It's weird.

I've seen a few of the ponds around here dried up as you describe. Gotta feel sorry for the critters that normally inhabit, or at least spend some time in those ponds. I'd agree with you, though, I can't remember it being that dry that long here. Could be my memory too- but I've lived in FL for 47 years, in SW FL full time for 10 yrs.

Hopefully we'll get into the rainy season soon and the all those ponds will fill up again.

2007 the drought was so bad....from Marco to Tampa.....no one could water their yards for an entire year

and sometime around 1980 it was so bad the farmers and nurseries could not even water on the southeast side

I have only fished around Keywest in jest and west to the fort and north of it. Not sure where you are in the Keys.

Gotta have a east flow bro for my area on the gulf. Most times things start to pick up around the last few days of May. Last May was super dry and June and July was. Been super dry going on 4 years now.
