Many of Cleveland's crime problems directly result from Republicans stripping it and other Ohio cities of their home rule rights to control guns. Ohio has extremely lenient gun control laws, likely not much different than in Florida, which negatively impacts economically distressed areas disproportionately.

3) The proper COVID comparison for Florida is California, which is a polar opposite of Florida given its pro science, stringent public health measures, including aggressive mask and vaccine mandates. As a result, as documented repeatedly in this thread, California has suppressed the COVID epidemic to a much greater extent than Florida.

4) DeSantis puppets believe any criticism of his policies is partisan and consequently invalid. The objective consequences of DeSantis policies as measured in deaths, cases (& incidence of long COVID), stress on hospitals, and family loss of mentors and breadwinners is much worse than in California, and yes, Ohio. Florida is ninth among U.S. states in deaths per million (Ohio 31, CA 35) and seventh in cases per million (OH 35, CA 40).

Florida's statistics are very suspect. E.g., Florida doesn't include non-citizen residents in its statistics. Florida's case totals are suppressed by relatively low rates of testing. Florida is 25 in tests per million (CA 10, OH 41).
Once again resorting to name calling? Sad.
I will ask again, if I am vacinnated, why should I be concerned with an encounter with a Police Officer without knowing his/her vaccination status.
If I call 911, should I ask to only send a vaccinated officer?
If in a traffic accident, should I question the 1st repsonders vaccination status?
What's next, question their political party?
Get real! Just plain fear mongering for political reasons just like your continued negative posts on the Florida's Govenor because he triggers your Trump derangement syndrome.

Unvaccinated cops don't even care about their own lives. How can we trust them to cate about the the lives of the communities they have sworn to protect?

I don't think it's that they don't care at all about their lives or the citizens they are supposed to protect-- it's just politics and doubling down on giving the middle finger to the Biden administration.

The irony, of course, is that so many cops felt so disrespected and abandoned during the BLM protests, but now they want to to forget all about the January 6th insurrection. I can almost guarantee that if Trump were still president and trying to mandate the vaccine, they'd be all over it and furious at anyone who wanted to avoid vaccination to make a political statement.

It's so sad that this is what the country has come to, but it is what it is...

Default Long COVID impact on Florida

It's likely that hundreds of thousands of Floridians are suffering from long COVID. In addition to personal suffering, long COVID impacts family breadwinners and the productivity of the state's work force. See posts 165 and 166 in this thread for more details.

https://www.city-data.com/forum/ohio...l#post62221719

If the incidence of long COVID nationally is two million to five million individuals as suggested in post 165, extrapolating this rate to Florida would suggest 130,000 to 330,000 cases of long COVID in Florida.

As Florida ranks among all states 7 in reported cases and 8 in reported deaths per million population, the incidence of long COVID in Florida likely is higher than nationally. The cumulative reported case rate, which likely highly correlates with the incidence of long COVID, is about 20 percent higher in Florida than the national average.
