For me, it's an Afghan Hound. Every time I see one in a dog show, I'm absolutely mesmerized by the way their hair flows when they're walking and how regal they look when they're just standing still. I would never have one for a number of reasons, but I absolutely love them!
Standard poodle. Love them. Love the brains, the grace, the nice nature, the work ethic, the commitment to family. Absolutely know I do not want to take care of the coat.
Great Pyrenes - Love the breed but I have no farm animals for it to watch so it would likely start wandering. We have a local GP I see wandering in town and I've seen him walking my road five miles from town.
Doberman - Love them but I would have to install a taller fence.
Great Dane - I'm not sure I could deal with their short lifespans.
Any dog that I love would fall into that category. I enjoy dogs (and cats) that belong to others, but my lifestyle is incompatible with pets.
But - of my favorites - probably a Vizla. They are such cool dogs, but they are so needy I just could not take it. Also any long-haired breed. I have always love collies since I was a kid, but no way would I ever have one - too much hair! .
The Chow-Chow. At least I don't think I would ever own one. I grew up with a Chow-
Spitz mix and also had a wonderful Chow Australian Shepherd. I have been looking for a Chow mix, but they are very hard to find, at least where we are. To me, no dog is more beautiful and breathtaking than a Chow Chow.
Doberman - Love them but I would have to install a taller fence.
or train them better! I've owned several and in some cases never even had a fenced yard (had the yard but no fence!).
I had a big male years ago that I could leave him sitting at the front door (outside) and go to work and he would be sitting there when I got home. That dog was all business and really was keyed in on stranger danger vs not. He was a silent thinker, but if he did bark the show was on and you better look because something isn't right.
Dobermans are really homebodies, they don't wander much
Beagle. Love the looks but not the character traits.
Disclaimer - favorite dog is the German Shepherd. Love the looks AND all of the character traits from intelligence to trainability to loyalty. Endless shedding is my only negative for GSDs.
So hard to make a list based on behavior. Even within a breed dogs are individuals. There are several breeds I admire a lot but their physical traits and the realities of our climate affect which I'd consider. Dobermans are a fave but they wouldn't enjoy the cold & wet. On the opposite end of the spectrum lie sled dogs...and just about every rescue dog here is all or part. My immune system has decided it won't play nice with such supershedders.
I love dogs but prefer smaller ones so I would never have any dog over 10 pounds, and I need a dog that doesnt shed much. I have Yorkies and I adore them absolutely loving intelligent dogs
