We have a friend whose mom and dad (mid-70s, live in El Paso) got Covid. Her mom is vaxxed/boosted and her dad is emphatically opposed to vaccination. Mom has mild symptoms (sore through, sniffle). Her dad showed symptoms on 12/27, went to hospital on 1/2, went on dialysis on 1/7 due to kidney issues, and not sure where he is today. As of Tuesday (1/11) they were discussing how long they could keep him off the vent. Not sure if they did. Our friend (his daughter) is really pissed at him right now .

Ugh. I’m so sorry your friends are dealing with that.

Thanks. I feel really bad for all of them. I don't know her parents, but they apparently have been pretty healthy otherwise.

She is taking a leave of absence (i.e. quitting) from AISD to help her mom - her mom is very distraught and apparently almost non-functional. She can't really do anything for her dad, though. In any case, it is one less fantastic employee from our school .

I just saw a news article stating that TXDOT intends to widen US-183 between 45 and I’m thinking MoPac by adding 4 new express lanes. I knew that they had plans to do that for some time but didn’t know they were going to start relatively soon.

183a extension north of Leander to Liberty Hill is moving pretty quickly in terms of construction.

They finally got me…

…I was waiting on this to happen

I was sitting at a stop light and I heard something go BANG behind me… and I knew what was happening… the Jeep Wrangler got hit by a car behind him and his foot slipped off the brake and he was pushed forward. I tried to move up but there were cars infront of me so I had no choice but to take it.

Ah well. Life goes on.

I haven’t called it into the insurance yet. Did get a police report though. But who’s insurance do I go through? The guy who hit me or the guy who hit the guy who hit me?

My only real concern is part shortages as I’ve heard some horror stories on how long it has taken some people to get repairs done. I was actually thinking of taking the Z28 … so glad I decided not to. But sucks that I wasn’t taking the Prius

I was going to go Ubering today after swapping cars but now I’m half tempted to take a break.

Even when things are minor for me I just take the day off from being in the car to reset. No need to be out and about when my brain and body are stressed. Even when I’m not especially feeling it, my smart watch has a spot on stress monitor that I take note of.

You can reach out to your insurance and pass along all the information to the other insurance companies. You may have to pay your deductible initially, but they’ll pay you back l after your insurance company finished its investigation.

At least you have another car and won’t need a rental. That was my biggest worry when I had an accident in October. It just happened to be two days after f1 so there were a bunch of cars being returned. I called Enterprise right away and they said they wouldn’t have a car until the following Monday (it was Tuesday). I was like, there’s no way I can not not have a car and found a car at the first place I called. Finding the replacement vehicle was no fun, though.

I've had alot of close calls doing Uber. It's my biggest worry to get into a fender bender while doing it given how flaky insurance companies are in terms of covering rideshares. I guess its funny because I can easily cover 200+ miles a day but the car that gets hit would be the garage queen that I don't drive so much these days as I was out to run a quick errand.

I'm thinking of taking the day off - Haven't had any off time since the Holidays ended but not sure.

The most painful part of it was standing outside collecting insurance information, drivers licenses, and police report while it was nothing but cold 45*F air being blasted on me.

If we're taking bets I say closer $5000. Have you had any body work done lately? It's crazy expensive!

Sorry N4C -that sucks! I got rear ended by a lady who got rear ended by a BMW on his phone. I felt more sorry for her - she got it on both ends.
