Wyoming...

- is the number one producer of coal in the U.S.
- ranked 2nd nationwide for natural gas production in 2007.
- had a Coal Bed Methane production yield in 2002 of 327.5 billion cubic feet.
- was ranked 5th nationwide in oil production in 2007.
- produced 25% of the world's production of Trona in 2008.
- has the largest known uranium ore reserves of any state in the U.S.

Since I'm sure these were the answers you were looking for, I'll ask another question that is related to these.

What uranium mining "boomtown" lost 95% of its population over a three year period after the uranium mining industry was hard-hit in the 1980s by the drop in the price of uranium?
Jeffrey City. It went from 5000 residents to 50 in the 80's bust.

Hey yall, I'm pretty busy and don't have a ton of time to hang out on C-D for the next few days we had a death in the family, so I'm going to pass my turn off to whomever wants it. The first person to post the next question gets my turn.

Really sorry to hear that WyoQuilter. Take care of business. Our prayers go out to you and your family.

Here's the next question.

What valuable metal was discovered in the tailings dump of a mine near Lusk Wyoming in 1919? And what was the name of the mine?

Here's the next question.

Hint: Silver Cliff Mine.

OK I found one quote that says:
Quote:
The Silver Cliff mine in the northern Hartville uplift was initially developed for
gold and silver in the 1870s and later mined for uranium
So I'm guessing the answer you are looking for is "GOLD"!

OK now I have all the bases covered.

Quote:
1900-1920

Gathering steam, Standard Chemical (now US Vanadium) in 1915 built the Joe Junior Co. Colorado plant to upgrade carnotite and recover uranium, radium and vanadium, resulting in 1936 the naming of the site, Uravan. New Mexico's first uranium was discovered in northwestern San Juan Basin by John Wade in 1918. The same year, at the Silver Cliff Mine in Lusk, Wyoming, uranium was discovered in copper and silver tailings of an 1880's mine. Milled on site, the concentrate was shipped to Denver over the next 4 years. Some was shipped to Madame Curie (Wissen & Boon, 1985).
The correct answer is "URANIUM"! LOL I didn't realize anyone had that much interest in uranium back in 1919.

I think I have covered all of my options.

A Brief History of Uranium in Wyoming

Discoveries
The Wyoming uranium industry dates back to 1918, when prospectors sought radium for Marie Curie’s first radioactivity experiments from tailings piles at the Silver Cliff mine near present-day Lusk. Later discoveries were made near Wamsutter at Lost Creek and in the Black Hills area of Crook County.
