I want others opinions on this. Can't stand first shift. I'm not the type to fall asleep at midnight or earlier. I would sit there for hours so I've been on 2nd shift for the past couple of years. I get as much sleep as I want now or as little! Best decision ever.

I work 3:30pm-midnight now, but soon will be on 1pm-11:30pm 4 days a week. Come on 3 day weekends!

The problem arises is when do people eat "dinner". Do you eat dinner while at work? Snack when getting home and hit the hay?

My gf works all shifts (besides third) so we usually eat when I get home. After making food then relaxing it isn't unheard of to get to bed at 4am or later. I have to leave at noon when my 10 hour shifts start so it will be rough to fall to sleep so late then wake up and shower. I could fall asleep earlier if we didn't eat dinner when I got home.

I mean she can make a nice dinner if she wants before I get home or just snack and I can try and bring a legit dinner for my lunch at work. Now I just bring crackers and such...not much really. Plus I hear it is bad to eat right before bed.

What do you do when it comes to eating dinner. Or should I just eat something small after work and be done with it. Last night we cooked a home made pizza and I was up until almost 5am. I'm off today so who cares, but if I worked it would have sucked.

Well, back when I did that exact same shift (3pm - 11pm 2 days, 11a-11p 2 days), I used to bring dinner or have dinner brought to me. As it so happened, I lived with my Dad at the time and he loves to cook, so he'd bring me whatever was made for dinner at around 7pm.

Would get quite a few dirty looks when everyone is supping on Subway Sandwiches and I'm supping on a ribeye steak Bwahaha!

Was so sad when I moved out and had to cook for myself. :/ After that, I usually just cooked my "dinner" early that afternoon and took it with me.

I once worked a 2-1230am shift.. I'd be in bed at 2 after winding down.

Sleep till noon or so and have lunch. Dinner was at work at 8 or 9pm.

No breakfast.

Assuming you get a meal break, I'd eat dinner at dinner time. I don't understand what the issue is.

Maybe that is my problem.

I wake up and don't eat lunch at all then bring a sandwhich crackers and a pudding and eat it during my 5:30 break or 8pm lunch. I get home and usually eat dinner and snacks after.

Worked 2 PM - midnight for about 8 months. I woke up about 10 AM every day. I ate my meals at normal times, and usually had a snack before going to bed. I usually did my cooking when I got home.

Actually, I liked 2nd shift the most. Traffic was never bad and the sun was shining bright when I woke up. I used to go for a swim before work, do shopping, go for a run, etc. Night shifts were another matter, but I didn't mind them as much as most people do.

Physically I loved that shift, but it was hard to have a life. I worked 4-12 for about a year. I'd get home around 12:30 am, eat dinner and have a couple of brews, go to sleep around 3:00 am. Get up at Noon, eat lunch, do what business I needed to do, leave for work around 3:00 pm(a lot more traffic going to work then leaving at midnight). So I only had a few hours of useable time a day. If needed more time I would get up earlier, but I hated that. I'm naturally a night owl/sleep in late person. The only plus side was Friday night. I'd usually just got straight to the after work bar for an hour or two.

I worked from 5pm to 1am many years ago. I would eat dinner around 8-9pm whether I brought my dinner or ordered out. Go to bed at 3am and wake up at 10 am eat breakfast. Eat lunch at 2pm.

I ate dinner on my lunch break between 7-8pm, and a snack when I returned home.
