Bumping up an old thread. I currently work Monday through Friday from 1:30 to 10:00 P.M. I am ravenous when I get off and ten but try not to eat too much. I usually crash by midnight and up by 8:00 AM. There are some days where I wish I would sleep later in the morning. In the long term I don't think 2nd shift is for me.

I work 40+ hours a week and take night classes 3 times a week and still have time to go out once in a while.

The night I have school are 18 to 20 hour days by get into bed and it is 3 days in a row back to back to back. It is worth in IMO because i am trying to make something of myself .

I get up at 4am to study and do not get home until 10:30 to 11 pm at night on the 3 days i work all day and go to class.

Thank god for wounder drugs like adderall and red bull .

I have worked third shift for 15 years. I only make $9 an hour so food has to be cheap. Usually the guy at the 7 eleven (the only place open in the rural area I live) gives me a discount on semi expired sandwiches and hot dogs. Third shift is job security since practically nobody wants it and the majority in the town I live in are on gov't assistance and don't work at all since there are no jobs.

I worked PM shift, 3:30pm to midnight, for 30 years. Loved it.

I got up around noon and had lunch, then at 8:00pm {lunch break} I would have a salad or a yogurt that I brought from home.

When I got home around 12:30am I would have my main meal of the day, maybe clean house a little, wash clothes, watch TV, etc., then go to bed around 4:00am.

Once a week, I would stop at Giant Eagle and/or Walmart after work to get groceries and what ever else I needed. When I had to go shopping elsewhere, I would go before work or on the weekend. I would make appointments late morning {11:00am} or early afternoon {1:00pm}. I avoided early morning appointments but did them when I had to, I would try to get to bed by 2:00am the night before.

Now that I am retired, I pretty much follow the same schedule......I was never a morning person.

However, now I have lunch when I get up, my main meal around 7pm or so and a snack later at night.

My husband works third shift (10PM-7AM) so not exactly the same, but what he does is:

Sleep from about 10AM-6PM, eat a light dinner at home around 8, eat a full dinner at work at about 2-3AM, snacking throughout his shift.

I worked 3:30 PM - 2:00 AM 4 days a week for two years. I'd wake up between 11-12, eat lunch, and usually eat a snack before I came in. Ate dinner at 7:30 - may snack around midnight. Typically ate a medium sized meal at 3 AM.

I've worked second shift for a few years now. I start at 5pm. I eat dinner around 3:30 and I sometimes have a light snack when I get home. I usually only eat two meals a day, breakfast and dinner. I also pack a Cliff Bar in case I'm hungry while at work.
