Of course in March, the Blue Ridge Parkway experience will be closed and locked gates. The BRP does not scrape snow or spread sand and salt. They simply close the road and do not reopen that section until it has melted on its own.

Heading north they are closed at Ox Creek Rd most of the winter until April This year because of road work will stay closed until possibly May. But the Folk Art Center is usually accessible as is the Visitor Center. There are several nice overlooks that would be open heading north before you get to Ox Creek.

Real time closures map -----> Blue Ridge Parkway - Real-time Road Closures

Looks like up to 90% of the BRP is closed today.

[quote=LEFTIMAGE;33247619]Reading your post makes it sound like you're referring to Mount Everest.

"we're flatlanders". Lol sounds like a some kind of handicap. I think you're overdoing the higher / lower elevation dichotomy here.

Besides, it's never too late to become an adventurous type.[//

Funny and True!

Everyone else, you have been very helpful, and I am greatly appreciative of the insight and suggestions offered!
Goodness, I think you are being a little touchy. There is a reason for LOL, it is intended to suggest kind joshing

Uhhh, DG ... the OP's post was from January of this year. He never got back to us, whether he ventured out of the FL flatlands or not.

I drove in a tiny rental car from Asheville to the Greenville Spartanburg airport. I was not at all prepared for the mountain driving. It scared the crap out of me. I had the gas pedal to the floor and the car would not accelerate. Then going downhill on the brakes.
Yikes.

While we were driving through the mountain we saw a beautiful golden retriever that had been hit by a car. It was laying in the grassy divider between the the middle of the lanes. There was nowhere to even pull over to see if it was still alive. This was someone's pet.
That vision stayed with me for a long time.
