lol the US census counts north Africa and Arabs as white... im pretty sure they will also remove the white non hispanic/ white hispanic thing on the census and just replace it with white, so that the white population shrinking doesnt look as dramatic lol
Funny that this is discussed on P&OC as well. It's such a stupid category, invented in the 1970s.

Speaking of white hispanics, last weekend at an outdoor roadside picnic area I saw a teenaged Hispanic girl in a bathing suit who looked white (at least most of ancestry must have been European judging by complexion). Part of her backside wasn't white but red. Wasn't sure whether to tell her she was sunburnt. It was too late anyway since it was 5 pm.
Oh nei, there was a time when Italians were not considered white, kinda like the Irish back then oddly enough. Which is ironic, because Spanish people were considered more white in the 1800s than Irish were (even some Confederate high officers were of Spanish descent). It's only when latinos started to come here in larger numbers did they invent the "Hispanic" category. They should just eradicate all questions of ethnicity and race in the Census. That only serves to divide others

Speaking of Irish. I was at an Irish-themed bar last night. Framed behind the counter was a sign "No Irish need apply". Owner is also a professor of Irish history and has a thick Boston accent.
Was there to watch the World Cup match. I got an American flag drawn on my cheek.

But then Oaklanders wouldn't be able to brag that their city is 1/4 White 1/4 "Hispanic" 1/4 Black 1/4 Asian on Internet forums.
"Hispanic" should be ditched, then "Hispanics" would have the choice between Native American, mixed races and White.

The proportion of non-brown eyes is far from very low though.
