Why is that? The US actually discriminates against the British from immigrating here? Makes no sense to me.
If I had my way, I'd allow unlimited immigration to the US from any English-speaking country, provided that they did the same...lol. There's plenty of Americans that would love to move to Canada or the UK for the health care, and I'm sure there's plenty of UK people that would love to have the chance to live in the USA, at least while they're young and don't need health care...lol.
Me, I've got some snowy locales in Newfoundland picked out if Canada ever allows open immigration of US citizens.
But what are your actual chances of getting a green card from this so-called "lottery"? 10% 5%? I'd love for folks like you to come on over - provided I can nip on over to the Uk to grab some of that freebie health care should I need it...lol.
It's because there are already too many British people there.
LOL, you could move all the UK over here tomorrow and you'd still not have as many Brits here as we have ppl from varied third world countries, mainly Latin America. Spanish is our defacto 2nd language from all the Spanish folk that live here now - English-speakers are actually a minority in places such as Miami.
We need more Brits over here, as I only speak English...lol.

Yes I know. It is because too many have won from the UK in the past. I think we reached our quota.
Well last year 2560 entered and 59 won so thats actually a higher chance than I thought. It's not impossible like the lottery.
That's a success rate of 2.3% - poor odds in my opinon.
I'd go with the student visa thing, sounds more of a sure thing. If you really like snow, MTU in Houghton, Michigan is your # 1 choice - I think that's the snowiest location of a university in all the US.
