I wish the highs in New York City were colder during the winter. I hate it when the temperature nudges just above freezing. I like a real frigid winter like what they get in Chicago, IL and Toronto, ON. Also nothing upsets me more than a rainy day during the middle of winter. I consider this an abomination. If it ain't snow, I'm not interested. I don't know how people live in places like London.

Even colder?? If I'm not wrong, last january NYC saw a high in 19F.

You're lucky. Today all weather lovers of my state have been pretty excited because of the chilling afternoon with temps slightly above 50F. I wish I could be into 20F...

That's even funnier than weather lovers here getting excited about 2cm of snow - do most people in SP generally like their climate, or do they wish it was cooler for at least part of the year like you?

I'd much prefer a London winter over a NYC one. It's far too cold in NYC.

Since it really doesn't get that cold here, I think the lowest high temperature I've ever experienced is around 55F.

I don't recall having a high temperature in the teens, that's a bit excessive lol. Just a low temperature in the teens is enough, that doesn't happen very often.

I don't know how London is warmer in the winter when NYC is 11 degrees closer to the equator. However the temperatures aren't drastically different in the winter.

Gulf stream/NAD

London is a lot warmer than NYC most of the time in winter. The lowest high ever in London was 21F, the lowest temperature ever was 14F. Most years, even the coldest nights struggle to get below 25-28F, and the coldest highs are around 35F.

Latitude is just one of a number of factors that determine climate. It seems that every winter there is a point where the weatherman loves to point out that Fairbanks or Anchorage were warmer than New York or even Atlanta, during an extreme dip in the jetstream. It is all a matter of where the air is coming from, not just latitude.
