Only one day at or above 80 degrees over the next 10 days . Could be the last one of the year. That would bring MDW's total number of 80 degree days for the year to 104, ORD's to 100, and IKK's to 110 days

Since 1981, MDW's most was 108 in 1991. Since 1957 most at ORD is 103 in 2005, NWS/Chicago has a lot of missing data for IKK, but most I saw was 114 days of 80F+ temps in 1998.

CFSv2 showing the cool air pour in and dominate for a couple of weeks or more, but pulling back during the second half of October

Along these lines, latest Euro seems to have the ingredients for a major cold outbreak by day 10. Yet another polar vortex in the central Canadian arctic, this time linked to a deep closed low off the coast of northern California.

I see 850 mbar temperatures of -10°C in central Alberta and Saskatchewan. How far south will it go?

39F ! We're pretty far from it but there are several lows in the high 40s in the forecast which is pretty early compared to what we've gotten used to. Actually I'm looking forward to it.

Highs still in the high 70s / low 80s.
