Heavy rainfall continuing to train over northwest Louisiana with flash flood warnings. Front nearly stationary.
From Excessive Rainfall Outlook
Quote:
...Lower Mississippi Valley and Piney Woods...
Widespread ongoing rain / some heavy / will lead to multiple
flood-related hazards over generally the Lower Mississippi Valley
and adjacent areas. There is a risk of flash flooding in some
areas, especially the southern periphery of the precipitation
shield. Elsewhere continued long duration rainfall will pile on to
inundated areas, and although not specific to the Excessive
Rainfall Outlook, significant river flooding is likely and already
occurring in much of this region / see Significant River Flood
Outlook product.
Hartford: 74°: Never had a February that warm since 1905! Feb 1985 hit 73°. Danbury: 77°: Since 1999 only. There was never a February that hit 70° until last year. Today's max temp......77° Bridgeport: 63°: Nothing crazy. It hit 67° Feb 1976 & 1997
Boston: 72°: Since 1873 only 3 yrs had 70+. 2017(73°) 2018 (72°) 1985 (70°)
NYC: 78°: Since 1869 never been a max temp over 75° in February.
Newark: 80°: Since 1949 never been a max temp over 76° in February.
Philly: 77°: Since 1874 only 1930 had a higher February temp (79°)
All makes sense since the upper level Heights was the highest on record. SouthEast Ridge be pumping!
most of these are unofficial stations though the NWS uses for additional data. But there's enough of them agreeing that 77°F (25°C) along the valley [right by I-91 ] seems accurate. Skeptical of the hotter readings, though looks possible right around Greenfield was a bit hot. In the hills on the roadsides, snowpiles remain and the ground quite cold; created interminnet cold breezes that make the temperature feel 20°F colder. That strange big jump in temperature on the slopes of Mt. Washington continued past morning to around noontime
Spoiler
Today minimum temperatures. See the 55°F by Burlington, Vermont? That was around midnight, by sunrise it was 60°F; must be the warmest February morning there on record. The lake is partly frozen, so it can't be making Burlington milder. Downslope winds from the Adirondacks? No, doubt they're big enough plus the wind was from the south. Here's Burlington the last two days. Steady warm-up overnight with a south wind. Consistent wind, and unlike here, no cold air pooled at the valley bottom creating fog that the ridge had to dislodge.
====================================
Warmest min ever recorded in February. A lot of New England broke this record, might depend on how the 24 hour cycle is defined
Last February we had a day of low 70s and it was followed by a severe thunderstorm band. Why is the end of this ridge much tamer?
