When you have temps aloft at -10C or colder , sun will do nothing but warm your skin. Struggling past freezing here almost 11am now. You'll get a little surface warmth from the solar radiation but not much.
Impressive air mass for April. Enjoy it, you don't see this often. And with a 984mb storm in the Atlantic.

Sounds like you dont get enough snow events or in a strange area.
It doesnt melt in sun below -2C here especially when you have more than 2 inches because snow keeps snow colder. Been there seen that so Im speaking through experience. Only through evaporation it can slowly disappear.
Little melting at my friends house right now. He still has a white landscape not far from here. Hovering around 0C with sun

Sublimation in the sun will slowly reduce the snow depth, but it takes a long time and doesn't deplete the snow by that much.

The ground temperatures will prevent the first inch of snow from sticking, maybe two. Past that it'll stick. It hasn't stuck yet, but we haven't gotten enough. It will eventually. Probably tomorrow's snow? In the eastern Massachusetts it's sticking (see photos); temperatures are similar.

I've seen it melt here in -10 before.
Actually yesterday if a perfect example, 2 nights ago we got 2 inches of snow and now there is lots of grass showing and the high yesterday was only -7C. So how do you explain the snow dissapearance?
Winds are ripping out there. What did my station record as the peak gust so far? I know there was a "Holy Crap" moment before, I knew it had to be over 60mph.
Feels like February. and Frequent 40mph+ gusts. Winds should start to relax soon
