Some maples starting to show large buds now. Cooler, damp March expected for us, many days in the upper 40s like northern NJ or perhaps London would typically get (avg is about 57).
yeah lots of the tress are very bud heavy and the cherries have blossomed here. Some other trees are blooming also, but still the bulk of the blooming won't come till March but it's getting started now.

London's average high in March is 53-54f, not upper 40s.

Don't you get bored of constantly trying to defend London, as if somebody has just offended your mother?
Temperatures in the 40's are still quite typical for early March. I'm sure you know that.
"The major stratospheric warming event will start to impact the 500 MB pattern by late next week with a significant cool down in the weather pattern. The influences of the stratospheric warming will continue on through about March 11th before relenting the 500 MB pattern relaxing, especially the Polar jet stream. I should note that the MJO in this time period happens to be in perfect support of this cold pattern this time with a strong yet weakening phase 8/1 in this period.
After March 20th, the stratospheric cooling which will start in ernest in a few days will start to impact the 500 MB pattern with the Arctic Oscillation going strongly positive and the ridge over western North America collapsing. This pattern will support a strong transport of Pacific air from the West coast to the East coast. I would not be surprised if there is a strong Chinook wind event takes place in late March over the Plains which marches eastwards towards the Mid Atlantic and Northeast with a major warm up in time for the last week of March and start of April.
We’ll discuss the ENSO impacts for early Spring tomorrow."
You know it's an extreme winter month when Lexington was almost too warm for me! Well, it was still pleasant here but that was some incredible persistent warmth in the east.
It wasn't just December, but the entire October-December period altogether. September was pretty much the last good month of 2015 down here. Really sh*tty pattern that was. If I'm going to be having record warmth, might as well have it in February or March, not autumn.
I would rather have an early spring than a sh*tty autumn with sh*tty foliage.

If I had said that March typically has many 60f days, someone would complain about it almost immediately. London gets some days in March between 45-50f, but the majority of days are above 50f.

Yeah, the second half of fall was very warm too. But December was truly exceptional, as evidenced by the fact that Savannah had the exact same mean temperature in November and December.

We average 6 days above 60F in March with 21 days being the most in 2012. We average 2 days above 70F with the most 11 days also in 2012.
Good! Hopefully we will see some 100 degree days in NYC this year!
