Exciting. Look how much qpf there is. WHA????

Shouldn't be high ratio snow but still. 2 inch liquid of 8:1 heavy wet snow ratios = 16 inches of snow but it might not be all snow though. Might start as rain.?

National Weather Service Missoula MT
348 AM MDT Sun Jul 10 2016

...SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL AND COOL TEMPERATURES THROUGH MONDAY...
...HIGH ELEVATION SNOW TONIGHT INTO EARLY MONDAY...

As the large low pressure system moves through our area today,
widespread precipitation with embedded thunderstorms are expected
due to high moisture availability. Initial heavy rainfall amounts
will focus around north-central Idaho and southwest Montana
today...and spreading northward to the rest of northwest Montana
by tonight into early Monday. This system will also keep
temperatures well below normal for those locations receiving
precipitation and thick cloud cover. Snow levels are forecast to
drop as low as 6500-7000 feet tonight into early Monday, resulting
in snowfall for high terrain. After all is said and done, valleys
could see over a half inch of rainfall while mountains could
potentially see 1-3" of liquid equivalent. The exception will be
far northwest Montana where precipitation will be limited due to
the low`s track. Outdoor activities, especially those in the
backcountry, should prepare for wet and cool conditions.
Hypothermia and poor visibility will be large concerns for high
elevations.

You are talking 6200' vs 13-14k' in these regions. Mt Ranier summit is Polar Ice Cap and permanently glaciated, they don't exactly compare

Of course, who would compare those different altitudes? lol

I'm curious what the same level will get and it shows how uncommon this is if Mt Washington most was 1.1" ..

From a meteorological standpoint, you rarely see Upper Lows this far south or this cold with this much precip this time of year. Interesting stuff to watch

Current Radar & temps at 9000'.

Looks like its snowing above 6000' in those areas. Cold air aloft is mixing down and cooling the air below more and more. Should get interesting tonight.

The big circle is the Upper Low, the arrows are the winds at the upper levels (Jet Stream)
