Neat photo — looks ominous like a blizzard is about to happen. Or maybe like those clouds on Mt. Greylock, where the clouds looked very threatening but there was almost no snow.

"The Kawuneeche Valley on the west side of the continental divide typically gets more moisture due to the orientation of the mountains and the uplift of air masses. Check out the recent snow...almost time to pull out the snowshoes and skis!"

I-70 & I-25 may be closed due to snowstorm coming through Tuesday night in Colorado. Blizzard conditions possible. Idaho too. They are saying the dynamics of the storm will overcome the surface warmth so snow to lower elevations even in Nebraska

NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
337 AM EST MON NOV 09 2015
VALID 12Z MON NOV 09 2015 - 12Z THU NOV 12 2015...

DAYS 1 THROUGH 3......CALIFORNIA TO THE NORTHERN/CENTRAL ROCKIES AND ADJACENT HIGHPLAINS...

WIDESPREAD SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED FROM CALIFORNIA TO THE NORTHERNAND CENTRAL ROCKIES EARLY THIS WEEK AS A SHARPENING UPPER TROUGHPROGRESSES INLAND OVER THE WESTERN U.S.. INITIALLY THE HEAVIESTSNOWS WILL BE IN THE WAKE OF A COLD FRONT...WHERE LOWERINGTEMPERATURES AND STRONG WINDS WILL OROGRAPHICALLY ENHANCE TOTALSALONG THE BLUE MOUNTAINS...BITTERROOT RANGE...AND SIERRA NEVADARANGE. ALSO...WEAK MID-LEVEL ENERGY LIFTING NORTHEASTWARD WITHINTHE MEAN FLOW SHOULD FORCE MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW OVER THE UPSLOPESIDE OF THE NORTHERN ROCKIES...WITH ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLYSPREADING OUT INTO THE LOWER ELEVATIONS OF WESTERN MONTANA AS THEASSOCIATED SURFACE LOW TRACKS THROUGH NORTHERN WYOMING MONDAYNIGHT.

BY TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY...THE FOCUS FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW WILLSHIFT FARTHER SOUTH TO THE CENTRAL ROCKIES AS THE BASE OF THESHARPENING TROUGH SWINGS OUT OF THE GREAT BASIN AND CLOSES OFF AMID-LEVEL CENTER OVER THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS. MODERATEACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED ALONG THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THEWASATCH/UINTA MOUNTAINS...BUT THE HIGHEST TOTALS SHOULD BE OVERTHE COLORADO ROCKIES...WHERE STRONG WINDS SURROUNDING A RAPIDLYDEEPENING SURFACE LOW WILL PRODUCE WIDESPREAD HEAVY SNOWS OVER THEFAVORED SLOPES OF THE TERRAIN. AS THE POTENT LOW TRACKS THROUGHKANSAS...ROBUST DYNAMICS COULD OVERCOME INITIALLY MARGINAL SURFACETEMPERATURES TO PRODUCE HIGH WINDS AND ACCUMULATING SNOWS ACROSSTHE LOWER ELEVATIONS OF EASTERN COLORADO AND WESTERN NEBRASKA.

MODEL GUIDANCE APPEARS LOCKED IN WITH THE EVOLUTION OF THESHARPENING TROUGH AND TRACK OF THE SURFACE LOW RAPIDLY DEEPENINGIN THE LEE OF THE COLORADO ROCKIES. THE WPC SNOWFALL FORECASTUSED A MULTI-MODEL BLEND TO SMOOTH OUT SOME OF THE SMALLER DETAILDIFFERENCES IN ACCUMULATIONS...WITH LESS WEIGHTING TOWARDS THE 00ZNAM WHICH WAS MUCH HEAVIER THAN MODEL CONSENSUS WITH AN AXIS OFLIGHT ACCUMULATIONS EXTENDING FROM THE LOWER ELEVATIONS OFNORTHEAST COLORADO INTO WESTERN NEBRASKA.
