Wouldn't the SSW event knock this off the table anyway? I mean if the vortex is displaced, what the heck can that MJO do to stop the cold?
One teleconnection might negate or moderate the other. If SSW does indeed happen and the PV is displaced in Europe as is the current thinking, the release of Arctic are to the mid latitudes of North America would be minimal, so the MJO phase might win out. Now if North America bears the brunt of the PV, then that might cancel out the MJO.
Ok but I don't really see the point of having two threads.
Dedicate storm thread vs general seasonal thread. Different. Up to you. Nobody forcing you. Will be fun though (and easy) to look back on. Will also help those of us who are waiting for it. I think you are the West most member in this forum east of the Mississippi, so will be fun to see whats happening there as it moves along.
Wow, the latest Euro deterministic model dropped our snow total way down from 18" to 9". As it gets closer I wonder what this will really turn out to be.
The St Augustine station has turned into Sumter. No way in hell it is 15 F warmer there than Daytona.
KTBR fell to 28 F, but lately I've been thinking that they've been trending warmer than surrounding stations as of late (a trend that started last month). I'm going to check the Brooklet station on NowData tomorrow and see how that compares. KSAV managed to fall to 27 F at 7 AM.
Whelp. I can confirm that the NowData station dropped to 24 F. I am not surprised. A neighbor's hose actually busted this morning and the ground next to it was caked in ice. That typically only happens during a really hard freeze, not a light freeze. With that, I can now update the seasonal lows for Georgia.
Dalton: 18 F (-7.8 C)
Atlanta: 20 F (-6.7 C)
Augusta: 24 F (-4.4 C)
Statesboro: 24 F (-4.4 C)
Savannah: 26 F (-3.3 C)
Saint Simons Island: 30 F (-1.1 C)
Another high in the 60's here . That makes 6 total so far this year. Now we just need to work on some lows in the 40's which will (hopefully) happen this weekend.
!!! This probably won't happen but it's still awesome to see. The GFS is calling for low 40's. Unfortunately I don't have access to Euro/Canadian outputs for comparison. As soon as the 18z GFS comes out I'll post here.
Had another freeze last night with temps dropping to 30F.
It got a bit warmer today with a high of 63F. Also some Gulf moisture is coming in. Only supposed to get down to 48F tonight with a mostly cloudy sky.
Nice sky around sunset.
