Winter 1943-1944 in Minneapolis was extremely dull with little snow but occasional bouts of bitter cold. December had no accumulating snow, only flurries that led to no accumulation.

January was very warm, with an average high of 35. Every high between January 13th-30th was above freezing and it got as warm as 58!!! Only an inch of snow fell in January.

February was about average for temps but only received 4.2" of snow

Ironically it was way snowier in late fall and in early spring

November was cold, getting no warmer than 48 degrees, with an average high of 36, and received 10.3" of snow over all

March was also very cold, with an average high of 32 and received 9.8" of snow.

September 1942 is the only September to have snow in Minneapolis.

Station USW00014922

(that's not true of course. September 1942 is the only September with measured snow, since the station records started. Which was the end of March 1938)

Using those same records, there has never been snow recorded between June and August. In Minneapolis. Using the 85 years of records from station Station USW00014922

Yep, but guess what? That inch of snow is very interesting, It happened on Jan 5 1944. That 2.5 cm of snow, was created from .05 cm of precipitation! That's a snow ratio of 50:1

Baltimore.

It has now been 673 days since they last had a snowfall of at least 1 inch. This breaks the old record set 2/23/2011-12/25/2012.

And the streak will last to exactly 726 days.

It is now clear that 2023 will be the coldest year here since since 2010.
While most of Europe has been well above average (1991-2020), we have been below for several months, and particularly this autumn from October - December 8th.

Here are the last 30 days in Trondheim (Trondheim-Voll 127 MASL, as the airport statistics had some glitch for last 30 days). The black line is the 24-hr average. The 24-hr average goes below 0C/32F on Dec 3th/4th. Not so this year as we can see. Some days are more than 12C below average for the date. November 2023 mean was -3.1C, which is 5.2C below average! It is 7C colder than Nov 2022. Looking at the statistics, only two Novembers have been colder since 1946 (1968 and 2010). So a one in 25-years occurence, probaly more rare with the warming. Some areas a little further north was colder than any Nov in 1991-2020. The main reason is a negave NAO, with strong anticyclone blocking the oceanic air/lows. Day after day with clear skies and very cold weather. Some of the Atlantic lows went far north, making Svalbard/Longyearbyen up to 3C some days and warmest part of Norway. What makes you say it will last exactly until Jan 31?

This year there are at least 3 places in the Southeast US having their longest frost free seasons EVER. The thread was bumped at an ideal time to comment about them.

The first is cold hole Charleston International Airport. By virtue of getting very lucky with multiple 1C near misses in February, March, November, and earlier this month, they haven't had frost since January 28 - the second earliest last frost ever and only 3 days behind the all time record of January 25 1992.
Their record longest frost free season, also in 1992, is 315 days from January 25-December 6. The date they would need to reach this year to beat it is December 11, and seeing as how the low tonight is forecast to be 7C it's a safe bet the 1992 record will be beaten.

The second is Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Back in 2022 they have tied the all time record earliest frost of December 26, and with their former longest frost free season ever being 338 days from December 26 1989-November 30 1990, the new record is 10 days longer as of today.

The third is Conroe. Unlike both Houston and Charleston TWO new records have been set here - their December 26 2022 last frost is 13 days earlier than the old January 8 2017 record, and with the longest frost free season being 333 days from January 8-December 8 in 2017, they have the record beat by at 15 days as of today.

Bridgeport, CT is now 20 days away from setting a new record of longest stretch for not getting over 2" of snow.

NYC keeps extending its stretch for a 1 inch snowfall. Last time NYC got 1"+ was 684 days ago!

We're not talking about a snowstorm here... It's 1 & 2 inch snowfalls. That is a sad stat

Ever since November 2017, Gainesville Airport has 7 consecutive frost-free Novembers and counting - a remarkable feat for a place with a usual November minimum of 0.3C, and especially in light of the fact that places with similar averages have had November frosts in that timeframe it just barely avoided.
There were lucky 1C near misses in November 2018, 2021, and 2023, but the trend has kept up so far.

Additionally, the more recent frost-free periods from these frost-free Novembers are starting to get way past the average. The first 4 2017-2020 lucky Novembers were followed by early December first frosts less than a week away from the December 4 average (December 10, 6, 3, and 1), but the 2021-2023 Novembers have broken well past that: January 18 2022 (all time record), December 23 2022, and this year at least December 31.
As a result the 2021 frost-free season was the longest ever, the 2022 frost-free season was the fifth-longest ever at the time, and the 2023 one will be at least the third longest with a mere 3 days behind the second longest.
