In sight of the incoming arctic blasts, let me talk about the coldest temperatures recorded since the year 2000, in various contexts:
The coldest temperature officially recorded in the entire world since 2000 was -84C (-119F) in Vostok Station, Antarctica in August 2008 (source). However, a satellite reading of -93C (-136F) was unofficially observed on a high ridge near Dome Argus in 2010 and again in 2013 (source).
The coldest temperature observed in the Northern Hemisphere since 2000 was -65C (-85F) in February 2002 in Oymyakon, Sakha Republic (source). This is again disputable, as lower unofficial temperatures have been observed up on the high elevations of Greenland (for instance at Summit Camp) and near the highest elevations of Denali and Mount Logan.
The lowest officially recorded temperature in North America (and the US) since 2000 was a reading of -58C (-72F) in Chicken, Alaska in January of 2000 (source). Unofficial readings as low as -80F were observed in the general vicinity of Tok, Alaska in January 2009 (see interesting article about this event).
The lowest temperature recorded in the lower 48 states since 2000 is beyond my knowledge, though I do remember an official report of -44C (-48F) in Daniel, Wyoming two winters ago (source). Also I know of unofficial reports close to -50F in rural Minnesota and North Dakota during the cold snaps of 2014 and 2004. The coldest wind chill was on Mount Washington (KMWN) where it has reached -90F or close to it on various occasions. Even right now at this moment it is at -87F (source)!
The coldest temperature recorded in a major megacity (population > 5 million) since 2000 was -39C (-38F) in Harbin in 2010 (source). The same statistic for a city above 1 million was -44C (-47F) in Novosibirsk in 2012 (source), although the outskirts of Ulan Bator also came close. The same statistic for a city greater than 100000 was -53C (-63F) in Yakutsk in 2012 (source).
Within North America, the coldest temp recorded for a metro area with population > 1 million was Minneapolis-St. Paul in Jan 2004, when it reached -31C (-24F). It reached -30C (-23F) again in Jan 2014 (source), and that mark might be in jeopardy this Sunday night! The same statistic for a city over 100000 was Winnipeg in 2004 and again in 2007, when it reached -41C/-42F (source).
Less relevant, but the coldest temperature I've personally felt since 2000 was -24F (near KSLK in Jan 2015), whereas the coldest temperature recorded in my current location (KISP) was 0F on two separate occasions. Currently it is 16F (-8C) outside.
Corrections and additional locations would be welcomed!
Before 18 November, at my location there had only been a handful of days with highs below 50°F (10°C). The high on 18 November was even a mild 67 (19), which I'm guessing broke or tied the daily record.
Since then, however, we have not had a single high of 50 or warmer. It's like the weather gods flipped a switch on us from early autumn to winter.
Whether or not you get these questions right is irrelevant, but what is interesting is that the coldest months on record in BC shake down as the following:
2 in the 1930s,
7 in the 1950s
3 in the 1960s
0 in all other decades!

That's cool. I'm curious some other spots in the U.S. Will check for curiosity. I know snow has been on the up and up here and 2010s will be up there on the list.
Speaking of snow........
Might come as a shock to all of you but... Bridgeport (at the CT coast) has 6" of snow so far this season, only 13 other years had more to date.
I didn't think 6 inches of snow would be 14th most to date. Kinda sad actually. Lmao.
But goes to show we don't get the good snows till Jan/Feb and recent decade March's
New all-time heat record for December in northenmost Norway (mainland) today December 19th.
Troms is one of the northernmost provinces in Norway, covering an area a little smaller than Belgium, and located well inside Arctic Circle, with Tromsø and Harstad as the main population centers. Weather stations have been operating there for at least 120 years, so records are usually moved by a few tenth of a degree. The oldest weather station in Tromsø has been continuously operating since 1895.
The previous December record for Troms was 12.5ºC / 54.5ºF, recorded at Torsvåg lighth Dec 1th 1984. Torsvåg has been operating since 1933.
Finnmark, the northernmost and easternmost province, a little larger than Denmark, also set a new record with 12.9ºC / 55.2ºF recorded at Nuvsvåg. Old record was 12.8ºC, and was set on New Years Eve in 2015, so less than a year ago.

Reason: previous record in Finnmark less than a year old

Actually, I believe January 2005 dropped below -50 F in parts of Northern MN
Averages for the month were -26/-44 (in F) which is more than 20 F below normal.
Also, December 1917 averaged -41/-58 (in F) at Fort Yukon, AK. Verkhoyansk like temperatures in North America.
