On January 23rd, 2014 the Yukon absolutely shattered the old record for the territory by 5.6C/10.0F. The old record of 10.9C/51.6F was set in Whitehorse and Haines Junction a year earlier. It's truly amazing that the temperature can reach 16.5C at 800m/2600ft elevation north of 61N latitude in the dead of winter.
That month was a classic analoguous to January 1937, January 1950, November 1985 or July 1993 – record cool in the Northwest, record hot in the southeast, with a belt of record heavy flooding rainfall in between over the Mississippi basin.
The rainfall was less heavy than those later months but still record-breaking in large areas, and the transition from “very hot” to “very cool” as rapid as in November 1985.
I actually remember November 1985 very well, despite being a young child at the time. To this day it's the wettest month ever in Pittsburgh, with 11.05" of rain, and only eight rain-free days.
I've just come to realize that four of the 10 wettest months in Pittsburgh weather history occurred during my childhood:
11.05" - November 1985 (wettest)
10.29" - June 1989 (2nd wettest)
8.71" - July 1992 (9th wettest)
8.51" - December 1990 (10th wettest)
Come to think of it, the spring and summer of 1989 were feast or famine in terms of rain: wet March (5.52"), dry April (1.43"), wet May (6.56"), wet June (10.29"), dry July (1.62"), dry August (1.12"), wet September (4.57").

*Shudder* I remember November 1985 as well, and I was only in 1st grade. The November 1985 coldsnap where I live was the coldest temperatures I've ever experienced in my life-time. Colder than the coldest December coldsnap. Colder than the coldest January coldsnap. Colder than the coldest February coldsnap. Brrrrr, it was -46.5C/-52F that month in the southern 1/3 of British Columbia.
Barrow has had an extremely warm October for them. The mean temp is 30.1 F, and not likely to change considering today's high there was 32 and the low is supposed to be 28. That will beat the previous record from 2012 of 27.5 F. The long term average October temperature there is 16.7 F. They set their October record high (now 44 F), and their latest 40 degree day (now October 29). They will fail to drop below 10 F in October for the first time ever. They also had their latest day ever with only a trace of snow depth (October 29).
Northway, Alaska made it through October without any precipitation. This has never happened before.
Meanwhile, down in Vancouver, BC they had 28 days of rain, a new record for most number of days with rain in October.
Raleigh's coldest temperature to date is 24 F. That's the coldest it's been this early since 1991.
Duluth's coldest temperature to date is 30 F. That's the mildest coldest temperature to date since at least 1874.
