Yes sir. A more typical Spring pattern/flow set up. We don't typically see the amplified pattern March to September. (Ridge/Trough) And exactly why is once the PV left the building, the flow is a bit more relaxed and more West-East now without the PV pushing the Jet Stream down in the East.
Was it the Polar Vortex leaving or the western ridge disintegrating? Seems like they're not independent of each other, maybe the western ridge causes the polar vortex. Right now, California is getting precipitation after a month and a half nearly rainless weather; their ridge broke down. And it's the coldest precipitation event of the season.

However, doesn't mean consistently warm. Doesnt mean there can't be Canadian Highs coming in with a NW wind. We still need a heat source, a mid level push of warmer air, and heights to build, but at least the chances are higher now for warmth to come in.
Long Range still looking below normal for here. Thinking April will end up normal ±0.5° with only 7 days in the 70s (normal is 11)
True, though I'm not expecting above normal. Even somewhat below normal would be very different from most of February-March. Next week is definitely below average, but not to the same level of other "arctic" spells. Btw, I'm thinking there's a chance this morning was the last morning in the 20s, or at least mid 20s. The extended forecast looks most wet and cloudy, without anytime for cool and dry weather. By the time this wet spell, it's over, the averages will be high enough that a cold night is unlikely. Still possible, of course. May typically gets a few frosts, so late April could get a morning of 28/29°F.
18C at ORD and 20C at MDW. My suburb is at 19C under mostly sunny skies. Up to 21C in Joliet. Lake cooling kicking in along the far Northshore near the Wisconsin border. Temps down to 10C
Its the low which surprises me. I've seen 89 F in April 2012, but it was followed by low humidity and an overnight low of 56 F. Hard to see Hot & Humid this early on in NJ.
