Veteran Chicago weather observer Frank Wachowski has recorded just 32 percent of possible sunshine the first 10 days of December. This is almost identical to the 32.4 percent sunshine Frank had recorded through December 10th last year. However things should change quickly starting Friday through this coming weekend when a huge dome of Pacific-origin high pressure slowly works its way east out of the plains over our area.
Friday through Sunday a high percentage of sunshine is expected each day – which should boost our December sunshine totals closer to, and possibly exceed the average of 41 percent normally received here during our cloudiest month of the year. The sunshine will also help boost our temperatures – pushing readings well into the 40s Friday and the middle 50s – some 20 degrees above normal – this coming Saturday and Sunday.
Low pressure moving east through the Ohio Valley will spread rain over the Chicago metro area Monday. Then northeast winds on the backside of the departing low pressure should pull colder air and cloudiness back into our area next Tuesday and Wednesday.
