We don't truly understand lightning yet other than the basics...maybe it just had enough force to let one flash go and that's it.

One fascinating thing I learned and will never forget is the fact that Storms "Pulse".. I look at storms differently after I learned that and realize why sometimes they'll be thundery/lightning and next minute nothing then back to thundery again.
I have to emphatise that the crack was really really close and loud, the flash that seemingly hit the river bank was just less than a half mile away and the thunder was straight overhead. The sudden appearance and disappearance of the cell seems just... well, weird.

The only reasonable explanation I found is that the cell reacted with encountering the soil and I just happened to be straight above it when it eventually died. Followed the lightning maps closely, but they didn't give any kind of answer. It was just some 60 minutes since the last recorded flash.

Only six days above 86F/30C so far (for me), including yesterday's 88F. I hit 90F already, in May.
