So it's 11am, 850s aren't that cold (not below freezing, but not warm either), reason why it's still 30s and 40s almost lunchtime April 18th? Clouds and wind direction.

High Pressure near Nova Scotia sending cold water Northeast winds down. Add clouds in the mix and the sun can't even warm us up. Imagine when the sun is weaker in the future .

First warm day today, 14°C with sunshine. Went out with shorts and a T-shirt, complete summer atmosphere apart from greenery.

Look what I came across in Norwalk, CT this morning. Elevation 60 feet. 10 minutes from I-95/beaches. Latitude 41.11°N

Actually its pretty awesome to see because we never see it around here this late. This is from February and it's not like we got 3 feet of snow in February. Last biggest snowstorm we had was 11" on Feb 13th. Only 3 more events just 1-2 inches after that.

You can see where I kicked it (not in disgust LOL). It was still nice and white underneath

Lake Michigan doing it's thing today. Plenty of sun, although I'm keeping my eye on some lake clouds in WI

When the Arctic Snowy owl came down this way in November it was the sign. LOL. Man this winter really did a 1-2 punch deal. As we know waters take a while to warm/cool off. I wonder when they will warm up and more importantly how deep the cold waters got. That depth of cold takes a while and then you have the mixing involved too.

We should of started a 2014 Spring Ice-Snow Thread. Oh well... almost done...I think..

Here's Ice Jam in New Brunswick Canada

Impressing me.

Now Mid April afternoon & still only in the 40s & even feels like 39°F in White Plains, feels like 41F here.

4 Panel Look at conditions. Only 50s down to Virginia.

Top right are temps and winds at 4000 feet. Notice the direction of the wind.. the layer above us is warming up but the Surface isn't.. See why with discussion from NWS.

Upton:
CLOUDS ARE HOLDING A STRONGER INFLUENCE IN TERMS OF MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON. WHILE LOW LEVEL CLOUDS HAVE SCATTERED, MANY MID AND HIGH CLOUDS REMAIN MITIGATING SOLAR INSOLATION. HENCE MAX TEMPS WERE LOWERED SLIGHTLY AGAIN WITH THE UPDATE

Boston:
THE ONSHORE FLOW OFF THE 39-40F WATER IN MASSACHUSETTS BAY SHOULD KEEP TEMPS IN THE EAST WELL BELOW NORMAL IN THE 40S /NORMAL 56-61/
